Regarding Vicki Bland's article Website development: avoiding the traps (P52-55 Feb issue), I am not quite sure whether Nathan Foster on page 54 was quoted correctly or not.
Readers may misunderstand the erroneous quote '... pay for Google Adwords. If you don't pay Google then your site doesn't appear on Google'.
Contrary to the way this comment is expressed, it is definitely not essential or even necessary to pay Google to appear on search pages. There are two types of results on Google pages: paid search (Adwords, i.e. sponsored links) and natural search (which is free, using SEO, i.e. Search Engine Optimisation techniques).
