3.0 out of 5 stars Dancing Pandas? What were they thinking?
I first got this tape because I loved the comic book. However, I don't remember any dancing pandas in the comic book. The pandas are only in the theme song, but that's still one time too many. If you survive the theme song, you are then treated to some of the great comedy from the comics. However, those who've read the comics will notice that much of the best stuff is...

In this first episode to one of the most hilarious animated series ever created, we get introduced to Ranma, Akane, Genma, Soun, Nabiki, and the loveable Kasumi. Here in this episode we see Ranma and Akane meet for the first time as Ranma's transformation secret is exposed. To make matters worse the two are being forced to get married against their will because their fathers arranged it. In the second episode we get introduced to one of the funniest characters in the series Tatewaki "Blue thunder" Kuno age 17. Tatewaki happens to be in love with Akane and refuses to accept Ranmas engagement to her. This is the founding volume for the entire Ranma 1/2 anime series. This is a must have for any serious collector of Ranma 1/2. There is some nudity in this tape but no real questionable content.

Ranma 1/2 is one of the most popular animes ever, and for good reason! And this is the place to start! You get to see the Tendo family meeting Ranma, and how Akane first found out that her fiance turns into a girl!

5.0 out of 5 stars OH MY GOD IT'S HILARIOUS., April 3, 2003
I really didn't know what to think about this anime when I heard of it from a friend. Come on would you want to watch a guy turn into a girl just by getting wet with hot water? Well I did, she told me how funny it was. So I was like ok but I had to buy the whole series, cause if I did like it i would like to see the whole series. Well you can tell I love the first tape. It made me laugh so hard. It is truly a beautiful series. After I watched the first series I bought the rest of the seasons series. The first one is the TV series, 2nd series is Anything Goes Martial Arts, 3rd series is Hard battle, 4th series Outta Control the OVA series (the reason why I put this after the 4th series is you should watch the OVAs after you watch the 4th series and watch the movies too, 5th Martial Mayham, 6th series is Random Rhapsody, 7th and final series Ranma Forever I started to collect, and the 2 movies but I have not yet watch them. I just watched the first series I'm trying to find some more time to watch the 2nd series.
Anyways I'll talk about this first tape. Ranma's old man sets him up to marry, but he rejects. So the family that has 3 daughters end up finding out about Ranma and his old man little curse. Ranma and Akane are not really getting along. I really like the part when she hits him with the table. But there is so much more than that part ever single minute is so good. I'm like so hooked. Another reason why I started watching this anime is also because I seen Inu Yasha and it is a beautiful art romantis fairy tale alittle bit of comdey but not as much as Ranma 1/2. But it is a great anime in it's own why. This writer totally is the best.
Well that's it for now.
RANMA SO RULES OF ROMANTIC COMDEYS OF ANIME.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ranma 1/2 TV Series Vol 1, February 27, 2003
This was the one that started it all. In this tape is the first episode of the long running Martial Arts-Comedy Ranma ½. It's extremely funny and it introduces the main story that is Ranma and of course some of that great smart mouth comedy.

In the first episode, Soun Tendo tells his 3 daughters that his old friend, Genma Soatome and his son Ranma, will be coming to stay with them. When they are supposed to show up, instead of a man and his son showing up, a PANDA carrying a GIRL shows up at their door step. The Tendo girls, Kasumi, Nabiki and Akane, then asume that Ranma is a girl and not a boy. After a bath, the Tendo's find out that the Panda and the girl are INDEED Genma and Ranma! Genma then tells them about their dreadful journey to the Chinese training ground called Jusenkyo and how the waters of Jusenkyo can turn whoever falls into them whatever drowned there many years ago.

In episode 2, it's Ranma's first day at his new high school with Akane and Nabiki. And right off the bat, he meets Furinkan High School's greatest champion (and biggest pervert) Tatewaki Kuno. Kuno takes issue with Ranma because he's being too familiar with Akane and challenges Ranma to a fight. Now Ranma has to put Kuno in his place and Kuno has to beat Ranma and show him that he is the Blue Thunder of Furinkan. Ranma also finds out why Akane hates boys so much!

In my opinion, the first TV series is one of the best in the entire Ranma catalogue. Tape 1 has a lot of great laughs and some really funny lines in it as well. Like this hilarious exchange between Ranma and Akane...

"Me? Marry that pervert? Never!" "Hey wait a minute, what do you mean pervert?!"

If you're a new fan of the series, check out the entire First TV season and make sure you start with Tape/DVD 1. You won't be disappointed! Just remember that there are 2 different tapes, one is in English and the other is in Japanese language/English subtitles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guy into Girl?, October 6, 2000
By
A regular 16-year old teenager guy named Ranma Saotome, with his father Genma on a trip to China. They go to the Jusenkyo Cursed Springs from anything, somebody, whatever drowned there last. While they where practicing Martial Arts, Genma fell into the spring of drowned panda. Now when he gets splashed with cold water, he becomes a panda. Ranma fell in too, but the spring of drowned girl. Like Genma, it's the same with Ranma, but different forms. He becomes a pretty, young, woman. Over with the Tendo Dojo, Soun and Genma agree to make Ranma and Akane to marry. With this 'tomboy' and 'pervert', things will never work out.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one of the funniest anime series i've ever seen., July 13, 1999

This review is from: Ranma 1/2 - TV Series, Vol. 1 (Collector's Edition) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Could things get any wackier when Ranma turns into a girl when doused w/ cold H2O? Apparently so.It causes some...problems when he goes to school with his fiance that his dad picked for him.For example,he doesn't expect to have a popular guy to fall for his feminine side. It is funny to see what kind of precadiaments he gets into. The story has a great plot,if,also, a creative one. Also, it keeps you wondering, when will Ranma get cured? and what's gonna happen to Ranma next?Oh, and another smash point:Ranma starts out saying something sweet to Akane [the fiance], but always manages to mess it up.
