Book Description

Cross & the Tomahawk May 1997

Kattenanit is a young brave who struggles between the law of his fathers and the law of his God. Taking a human scalp is the only way he can earn a wife; yet the words of the Great Book haunt him: "You Shall Not Kill!" He grows weary of God—until the mission of Jesus Christ is made clear by the ransom of blood, unselfishly paid by a fellow Narragansett brave.

About the Author

Mark Ammerman was blessed to be born into a literary family. For as long as he can remember, his passion was to put words and pictures together. His motivation for writing this book comes from a 300-year-old connection to one of the principal characters, Roger Williams, who is his great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather. Mark, his wife Terri, and their four children live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

A Kid's Review
Job, a former Narragansett brave and a Christian, is living with the English in New England in the 16000s when "King Phillip" of the Wampanoag attacks them, forcing the English to send all other Indians into reservations. The English set Job free so that he can work as a spy to find "King Phillip", whose Wampanoag name is Metacomet. In the process he witnesses a murder, then escapes. Finally the war ends and he can go back to his family, where his people, the Narragansett, are poor but free.
