Scobie Malone, that Australian copper in his third appearance, is now honeymooning with Lisa in New York which soon won't even be a good place to visit (except in books like this). Circumstantially at the same place at the same time, Lisa has to be kidnapped along with Mayor Michael Forte's wife Sylvia and they are in the hands of two young Weatherchildren, Abel and Carole. Carole is in with him in an attempt to save her brother - one of the five prisoners in the Tombs who are to be released to Cuba - the ransom demand. While proceeding toward the very literal deadline, Cleary airs some of the issues that figure in and out of the news from politics to the generational cleavage. All in all not very surprising but soundly liberal and likable - you might say good-old-fashioned. (Kirkus Reviews)

I ordered Ransom even though I had ordered it from ILL at the library where I work. I got that quicker than I did the book, so had already read it. I appreciated the fact that the company atoned for the fact that there was a computer problem and I received a refund on the shipping. I would deal with them again.
