Book Description

September 22, 2009
Martin Legace a former special ops standout, was once recognized as the top field interrogator. His study of the human mind verged on autism. He had a reputation for getting anything out of anyone - Five years ago, a random crime shattered Legace's world. He took his teenage daughter and withdrew to the archives of the Alexandria FBI. His developed a method known as- shadow projection. It was a term coined by his insufferable director, Bailey. Legace hated the simplification. He threw the deductive model out. He didn't follow a trail, he took on criminals who didn't leave a trail. They were fixed objects like sundials casting a unique shadow for every incremental step in their journey. His methods involved projecting forward to their next step. A young agent walks into his office. An abduction ring is preying upon young women of marginal fame, using them in adult films and ransoming them for the price of pornography. Legace finds out the latest target, and it becomes personal.

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

I have lived in million-dollar homes and been homeless. I think that the balance of life between these two fixed points is more than just a social status. My job has taken me around the world and back. I believe in the nobility of a simple story told well and a complex person hiding in commonplace clothes. James Joyce is a great read. Vonnegut makes people think. I'm not much for poetry, but Ezra Pound has caught my eye lately. Fitzgerald probably should be mixed in there too. Why not?

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing new mystery writer!!, September 27, 2009
This review is from: Ransom X: A Legace Mystery (Paperback)
I'll admit I took a chance on this book because of its sexy cover and the author's funny name -- gotta be a pseudonym! What a delight to find a well-written, thoughtful and surprising mystery story with an awesome protagonist. Legace is like Philip Marlowe for the 21st century -- a deep character living on the edge of the dark side but deeply committed to taking out the bad guys. If you like thrillers, detective stories, or dark dramas, you will enjoy this engaging read. I've never heard of I.B. Holder before, but whoever he/she is, I can't wait to read the next Legace mystery!

5.0 out of 5 stars A new voice on the thriller/detective scene, September 26, 2009
This review is from: Ransom X: A Legace Mystery (Paperback)
I have to admit that I enjoy a good detective mystery but even more, I love a good detective and that is one of the things Holder creates in this book. Detective Legace is a great creation and the kind of agent we hope exists with his supreme detecting talents. Add to this, a uniquely penned father-daughter relationship and you have an interesting, articulate, intelligent, and unwilling hero. The crime (and mystery) itself is a little explicit and definitely unnerving but also relevant and combines use of today's world (the Internet, technology) with insights into the untethered mind of a sociopath you would never wish to meet but which a part of you is afraid might actually be out there. It really is a great read. I enjoyed the pace, the storytelling, and the satisfying conclusion and I look forward to reading another Legace mystery.
