5.0 out of 5 stars Put Simply--I Laughed
What can I say? Dennis Miller makes me laugh. His rambling monologues filled with pretentiousness and profanity make me laugh. He has a sharp, critical eye (which he's not afraid to turn on himself) and I often, though not always, agree with what he has to say. You take comedy with a grain of salt, realizing that its easy to take shots and less easy to come up with...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not his best book
I found this book to be somewhat tedious, unlike his last book which was very entertaining. It seemed as though Miller is just going through the motions on this book, and lost some of his humor.

What can I say? Dennis Miller makes me laugh. His rambling monologues filled with pretentiousness and profanity make me laugh. He has a sharp, critical eye (which he's not afraid to turn on himself) and I often, though not always, agree with what he has to say. You take comedy with a grain of salt, realizing that its easy to take shots and less easy to come up with real solutions to the world's problems.

I sometimes hesitate to give a book like this a really high rating. Will this book change the world? No. Will it be read a year from now let alone 100 years from now? Probably not. And yet, this book made me laugh out loud more than anything I've read in recent months. It made me laugh more than I remember laughing at Miller's earlier rants. And now, in the aftermath of the tragedies lately, it's just what the doctor ordered. Enjoy it for what it is but enjoy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rant and Rave, September 14, 2002
I received this book as a gift and let it sit for awhile before pulling it off the shelf last weekend and getting through the pages in a couple hours. Funny funny stuff. Miller has an insight into topics like no one else. I've only seen his show a few times, but I know these "rants" are a collection of the rants from the show. Topics include lousy jobs, education, the Clintons, reality shows, government, football, and the media. No one is safe around Dennis Miller. Sometimes when you watch him live you can't understand half of the stuff he talks about because of his obscure references to other things. Having the book at least you've got it in writing and can double back to see what he was talking about. That makes understanding him a whole lot easier and it's even funnier once you understand what he's talking about. If you like his comedy this book is worth having. Funny stuff here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Now I don't want to get off on a rant here...., November 7, 2001

but Dennis Miller has more common sense in his pinky finger than George W. and the entire pack of DMV-caliber public servants in the Congress. This book has it all. His rant on intolerance was probably the most astute rant he's ever done. His rants on Elvis, Child Stars, and sports are funny as always. This man should be President, Chief Justice, and Supreme Speaker of Common Sense all rolled into one.

If you want a cranial clean-out session that makes an enema seem tame this will help clear your head of all the fog put out there in the media.

...and he goes after anyone and everything, despite what some of the bitter, angry, neurotic, self-styled liberal reviewers here would have you believe. I think it was Mark Twain who wrote something like "sacred cow makes the best hamburger"; Miller understands and embodies this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outrageous fun!!, October 18, 2002
By A Customer
Miller's cultural observations are hysterical! Nobody's safe from his barbs, nothing's off limits. His diatribes on public education & Hollywood are especially funny. (For more derisive commentary on schools & Tinsel Town, though, read "No One's Even Bleeding"). The thing I like best about Dennis is his willingness to goof on himself as well as others. The "Rant Zone" is full of honest & biting wit, two essential ingredients for laughter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't drop the ball, but not much ground gained., February 12, 2002

Dennis Miller is back at it again with his fourth voume of "Rants". He and his team of writers don't miss a beat with there acerbically witty views and criticqes on celebrities, culture, and society. An added twist to this installments of "Rants" was Dennis Miller's new foray into football broadcasting on top of his weekly HBO show. With the additional commentary on football in this book, he can now feel for the growing number of people needing two jobs to get by (particularly those who have the oh-so ungrateful tasks of bitching and watching sports for a living, poor babies!)
Yes, its pretty much the same old same old for Dennis - and to me that was the biggest letdown of the book. Many of the issues dealt with in this book have already been done in other "Rants". Originality was lacking in many parts. Not many rants on politicians, sex, celebrities, and society can be kept fresh and interesting time after time, even by DM.
Still this book is a must-read for Miller fans and those who love to hear the high and mighty knocked off their precious horses.

4.0 out of 5 stars It will make you laugh!, July 4, 2011
As long as you're not one of the humorless critics who gave this book 1 star you should get a laugh. I read it nearly ten years after its writing and I still found it funny! It is perfect to keep in the guest bathroom. Each section is only two or three pages and can be read in a minute or two. I laughed throughout the entire book. No it's not literary genius but if that's what you want you are in the wrong department all together! The book is now dated because a lot of the humor is based on events of the period. If you are older than 25 you can still appreciate this book in 2011. Give it a shot. For less than $5 you how can you go wrong?

The joy of Miller's humor is he plays the whole course hard. I mean, this guy putts with a driver. Every chapter is an ace, every line soars straight down the fairway.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing, January 27, 2006
By
Don Hawk (Nashville, TN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Rant Zone: An All-Out Blitz Against Soul-Sucking Jobs, Twisted Child Stars, Holistic Loons, and People Who Eat Their Dogs! (Paperback)
I don't know if it's age or recent political "reconversions", but this latest "rant" entry is neither as biting or funny as his previous releases. On his most recent appearance on Leno (January 20, 2006), he showed when he isn't lauding Dubya or the war, he still shows signs of humor ("As a nation we're getting fat...if you're built like a tank, don't wear the top").
But in this book, even the non-political rants don't have the bite as they did in "I Rant, Therefore I Am" or "Ranting Again".

Perhaps, if he writes another "rant" book, he could do one on his experiences on "Saturday Night Live", since he was noticably absent from the "Live From New York" book. If Jay Mohr can do it, Dennis can...and he may just recapure my respect.

Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
