Rao's marinara sauce tastes like the best home-canned marinara sauce using the red-ripe tomatoes, fresh basil and olive oil. I use it for pot roasts, pasta sauces, pizzas, omelets, the boring chicken breast and a whole lot more. Their other sauces are good, too, but the marinara is a pantry staple here. Thank you Rao's for making it simple and delicious.

Finally! an emergency jarred sauce that's authentically italian. Open the jar and the olive oil is marbled in the top, just like your very own leftovers. The marinara is the best and you can see the fresh basil chunks inside.The vodka sauce is a good second and is great for penne and casseroles. Worth every penny. I heat a jar in a pan and cook my meatballs right in it. Make the pasta while it simmers. Dinner in less than 30 minutes!

Every once in a while I'm in a rush and want a jar sauce for something. I found Rao's the best--but at [...] bucks a jar--not worth it. I nearly always make my pasta sauces from scratch and it does take some time. Sometimes I might be in a pinch and want a jar sauce maybe 8 times a year. I just can't mentally justify Rao's high price for 24 ounces anyway I look at it especially when I my scratch sauce costs me under $7 and I make 4 quarts and I usually have plenty to freeze. After some experimenting and trying different jar sauces I found a better deal than Rao's. I found Barilla's sauces to be quite good, the best of the other jar sauce I tried--not as good as Rao's but approaching. I noted what the Barilla was missing. So I simply jazz up the Barilla with some tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, herbs, garlic etc and in 15 minutes I have a sauce as good or better than Rao's. I use coupons and get the Barilla sauce for a buck a jar and the extra added ingredients is a almost a buck and my total cost for my Jazzed- Up Barilla sauce is two bucks for 28 ounces and 5 minutes active time and 10 minutes simmering. I save eight bucks and have a great little sauce in 15 minutes.
