4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums of 1999
When I got this album, I didn't know what to expect. I've been a Likwit crew fan since they busted out on King Tee's the Triflin' Album on that song "I Got it Bad Y'all". Ever since then, I've been a fan of the whole Likwit Crew that King Tee started, including, King Tee, J-Ro, Tash, E-Swift, Xzibit, Defari, and the loot pack.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good album, with some great tracks but thrown together.
Tash hit pretty well with his first solo album. His lyrics are on point but some of the production is lacking, and a lot of the tracks seem thrown together. The songs like "Ricochet" are terrible and thrown together, and totally disorganized. Also, "Pimpin' Ain't Easy" has some funny lyrics and a good beat but the chorus is so bad it ruins the song...

One of the things that suprised me was the production. The production is tight on the whole album except for the track Likwit homies. A lot of west coast style beats.

As far as the rhymes, Tash never lets up. He brings it on every track. My favorite tracks are Smokefest '99 which features Outkast and B-Real. Incredible! Also the track Falling On. (those of you who have the chronic 2001 will find that beat familiar). Another one of the best tracks is Only when I'm Drunker which is a continuation of Only When I'm Drunk which appeared on the alcoholics first album.

Guest appearances from the alcoholiks, Xzibit, Phil the Agony, Kurupt, Outkast, Requan and B-Real add and enhance the album.

This album is excellent and I rate it a 4.5 out of 5. The sad thing is this album probably won't even go gold. With this album, along with Kurupt and Dr. Dre's album, the west is showing that we are still here and ain't going nowhere. A must buy for an Likwit Crew fan, West Coast Rap fan or any Hip Hop fan.

Peace This album starts off pretty good with the Ricochet

4.0 out of 5 stars Tash Holds His Own on First Solo, June 14, 2002
This review is from: Rap Life (Audio CD)
Tash (AKA Catashtrophe) is a member of the Alkaholiks and in my opinion the strongest link. He has a crazy flow that I can't get enough of. Lyrically Tash is a tight rapper. Himself (and the Liks included) are underrated lyricists. I love listening to this album because he is the funniest and most creative lyricist out, along with Redman. You never know what's going to come out of this guys mouth. Some of the stuff is downright hilarious like on "Fallin' On" he spits, "On the mic I move the crowd like Big Pun stage divin". "Only When I'm Drunker" is a hilarious song with the Liks where each member humorously disses each other. The only downside is that The Alkaholiks are a great group and sound at their best together, so this album isn't quite as good as their group albums. It is a very solid solo though, with some good beats, and tons of rhymes that will make you press the rewind button to see if he really said that. The "Rap Life" bravado on this album can get a little tiring and Kurupt's appearance on "G'z Iz G's" leaves a lot to be desired. But great songs like "Ricochet", "Only When I'm Drunker", "Nightfall", "True Homies" (with a great verse from Xzibit), and some others make this album worth getting if you like anything Tash or the Liks have done. Fans of other music might want to listen to some of it before buying.

4.0 out of 5 stars Suprisingly Good, December 4, 1999
This review is from: Rap Life (Audio CD)
I have to admit that when i first hear Tash released his own album i was a little skeptic. I doubted if he could carry an album all by himself. But after listenin to Rap Life, all my doubts were put to rest. Tash's funky voice and flowing lyrics are present on every task, creating a cd that is easy to listen to. Tash comes out of nowhere, and claims a top album

3.0 out of 5 stars Good album, with some great tracks but thrown together., July 6, 2001

Tash hit pretty well with his first solo album. His lyrics are on point but some of the production is lacking, and a lot of the tracks seem thrown together. The songs like "Ricochet" are terrible and thrown together, and totally disorganized. Also, "Pimpin' Ain't Easy" has some funny lyrics and a good beat but the chorus is so bad it ruins the song.

However, there are some great songs, like "G's Is G's", a song featuring Kurupt, where the two talented lyricists trade lines for a classic collaboration over a cool West Coast beat. The East Coast-West Coast uniting "Rap Life" features Raekwon and they come together well for the first single. Also, "Fallin' On" is a great track with the same beat as Dr. Dre's "Next Episode", the song about being famous and rich without a girl "Part Of The Game" featuring Carl Thomas is a nice, soulful laid-back track, and my favorite track "Bermuda Triangle" which has a bangin' funky beat and Tash tears it up with a blowout performance, great way to end the album.

However tracks like "Smokefest" featuring Outkast, B-Real and Phil Da Agony would sound like an instant classic but is very boring and not too good. There are also some annoying skits on this album, though the Bill Clinton one is funny. Overall this album has some good tracks and Tash did a good job but it has some holes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty nice album, but a bit thrown together., May 10, 2000

Tash hit pretty well with his first solo album. It's problem is it goes all over the place. Some of the tracks are five star songs, but some are even as low as one. The first track "Ricochet" is a terrible song and is not a good first impression for the listener. I don't feel that there was any practice put into it. On the other hand, tracks like "G's Is G's" featuring Kurupt, which has the two skillful lyricists trading rhymes, the East and West uniting "Rap Life", which features Raekwon, my favorite "The Game", which features Carl Thomas, and some others are classics. The problem is there are too many filler songs and skits, plus the other excellent track "Pimpin' Ain't Easy" has a God-awful chorus.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wake Up Call, December 7, 1999
This review is from: Rap Life (Audio CD)
Tash is not a superstar, he's not a platinum genius, but he sure can rap. I was skeptical at first as to whether the Likwit Crew leader had enough to hold down a solo effort, but my questions were answered. Tash rips through a series of beat heavy, rhyme flowing songs that leave everybody reachin to turn the volume up. Dope songs such as "Rap Life" with fellow undergroud star Raekwon, and "Only when I'm drunker" leave listeners bobbin theirs heads and cravin more of Tash's funky style. His wacky voice and tight rhymes make this album a pleasant suprise to any hip-hopper, to bad nobody will notice.
