One of the best albums of 1999,
By smw (Southern Cali) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rap Life (Audio CD)
When I got this album, I didn't know what to expect. I've been a Likwit crew fan since they busted out on King Tee's the Triflin' Album on that song "I Got it Bad Y'all". Ever since then, I've been a fan of the whole Likwit Crew that King Tee started, including, King Tee, J-Ro, Tash, E-Swift, Xzibit, Defari, and the loot pack. One of the things that suprised me was the production. The production is tight on the whole album except for the track Likwit homies. A lot of west coast style beats. As far as the rhymes, Tash never lets up. He brings it on every track. My favorite tracks are Smokefest '99 which features Outkast and B-Real. Incredible! Also the track Falling On. (those of you who have the chronic 2001 will find that beat familiar). Another one of the best tracks is Only when I'm Drunker which is a continuation of Only When I'm Drunk which appeared on the alcoholics first album. Guest appearances from the alcoholiks, Xzibit, Phil the Agony, Kurupt, Outkast, Requan and B-Real add and enhance the album. This album is excellent and I rate it a 4.5 out of 5. The sad thing is this album probably won't even go gold. With this album, along with Kurupt and Dr. Dre's album, the west is showing that we are still here and ain't going nowhere. A must buy for an Likwit Crew fan, West Coast Rap fan or any Hip Hop fan. Peace This album starts off pretty good with the Ricochet

Tash Holds His Own on First Solo,
By "blazerfan0" (Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rap Life (Audio CD)
Tash (AKA Catashtrophe) is a member of the Alkaholiks and in my opinion the strongest link. He has a crazy flow that I can't get enough of. Lyrically Tash is a tight rapper. Himself (and the Liks included) are underrated lyricists. I love listening to this album because he is the funniest and most creative lyricist out, along with Redman. You never know what's going to come out of this guys mouth. Some of the stuff is downright hilarious like on "Fallin' On" he spits, "On the mic I move the crowd like Big Pun stage divin". "Only When I'm Drunker" is a hilarious song with the Liks where each member humorously disses each other. The only downside is that The Alkaholiks are a great group and sound at their best together, so this album isn't quite as good as their group albums. It is a very solid solo though, with some good beats, and tons of rhymes that will make you press the rewind button to see if he really said that. The "Rap Life" bravado on this album can get a little tiring and Kurupt's appearance on "G'z Iz G's" leaves a lot to be desired. But great songs like "Ricochet", "Only When I'm Drunker", "Nightfall", "True Homies" (with a great verse from Xzibit), and some others make this album worth getting if you like anything Tash or the Liks have done. Fans of other music might want to listen to some of it before buying.
