3.0 out of 5 stars I wouldn't say it wasn't great, but...
It was very predictable. Animalistic is our Rap Superstar in this novel. He has everything from money to any woman he wants. Sex is thrown at him so frequently that it becomes expected by EVERY woman! That is until Randi steps on the scene. She's an aspiring writer and film maker - a good girl. 4.0 out of 5 stars (4.5) A Great Love Story, April 21, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Rap Superstar (Paperback)
Randi, a girl who has gone through many hardships will meet her favorite rap superstar on her job. He decided to invite her to his afterparty. After much contemplating she decides to go, only to be treated like another one of the groupies with no self respect for themselves. After their first encounter he cant get it out of his mind of how bad he treated her and how he disrespected her. He attempts to apologize and after many tries she finally accepts and they soon begin dating. Before you know it they are married. Will the marriage last. Can Anthony(a.k.a. Animalistic) stop his cheating ways. Can he say no to the groupies and does she jeprodize his music career. Does Randi have enough power to be hurt again.

This book is great and gives you an idea how hard it is for a married superstar. It gives you a perspective on how long distance relationshps work. It also shows you that there are some good girls out there who dont just like guys for their money. I'm not a big fan of lovbe stories, but this one is great. If Debra Clayton keeps making love stories this good i might chang my ways and start looking in to more love stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rap SuperStar - Black Love Story, July 15, 2005
This review is from: Rap Superstar (Paperback)
I read this book in a matter of hours. This was the cutest story I had read in a long time. I enjoyed it so much. Rap Superstar is based on the life of #1 rap artist Animalistic, aka Anthony Talbert.

Anthony is high on life. He is cute, fine, worth millions, and can have any woman he wants. He goes to bed with a different woman every night. He knows he is "the man". Animalistic meets Randi Jacobs, an aspiring writer who is a waitress in a Greensboro, NC restaurant that Animalistic dines at after a show. Randi is Animalistics #1 fan. When she meets him she is ESTATIC. Animalistic invites her to his hotel room for a party, but unfortunately, the person he is, is not what Randi likes.

He propositions her for sex in a very rude way. Randi tells him what she thinks of him, but at the time he doesnt care b/c he feels like he can get the next girl who is waiting to give him some lovin.

However, Randi's sharp tongue hits deep in Animalisitic. He realizes that he was very disrespectful to not only Randi, but also himself for how he is living is life. He hunts Randi down and falls deep in love with her. Only Randi doesnt receive his love b/c she has been hurt before in a past abusive relationship. She has her guards up high and cant let them down because she is afraid she will be hurt again. Randi finally falls for him, but he messes up in a bad way. He has to start all over and win his love again.

This is a great story. Get this book, you surely will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Is A Breath Of Fresh Air!!, April 28, 2005
This review is from: Rap Superstar (Paperback)
When I picked up "Rap Superstar" I just knew it was going to be a waste of time. I assumed it would just highlight a rapper and the trouble he gets into. This turned out to be a love story, the main character just happens to be a rapper. The writing is quick, minimal grammatical and typing errors, and the ending may be typical but it fits the story. I like that Anthony, aka Animalistic, chases after love from Randi, a woman who commands his respect. Once he finally gets her heart they still go through changes but fight for love all the way to the end. Anyone who has a heart would like this book. And no, unlike a previous reviewer suggested about others, I'm not friends with the author, I just think she wrote a good book. I definitely reccommend this.

Sex is thrown at him so frequently that it becomes expected by EVERY woman! That is until Randi steps on the scene. She's an aspiring writer and film maker - a good girl. Anthony "Animalistic" lives up to his name when he expects sex from Randi like he does with everyone else. When she makes it known that she's more than just a hoochie and his groupie, he falls in love with her to say the least. This story was cute, but I already knew the ending when I reached the middle of the book. All in all, it was a good read, and I would still recommend it if you want to be entertained.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hip Hop Love Story, October 23, 2004
This review is from: Rap Superstar (Paperback)
What girl doesn't fantasize about meeting her favorite star, falling in love and getting married? Well Randi Jacobs does just that. A purely coincidental encounter with her favorite rapper, Animalistic, sends Randi on a whirlwind for the next year of her life.

Animalistic, is your typical rapper - young, dumb and full of mistakes. The biggest mistake he could ever make was to think that Randi was the typical groupie. After a dose of "reality check" he realizes that there is more to life than being a player.

Together, Randi and Animalistic, whose real name is Anthony, teach each other to trust, believe and most importantly love. Capturing one another's hearts was no easy task but keeping them that's a whole different matter. They are going to have to endure the time apart, groupies and all the other things that go along with the lifestyle that they have. Unfortunately, one of them is going to be put to the ultimate test and only time will tell if they passed it. Will this Bad Boy and his Queen make it or will they wind up like so many other celebrity couples?

Rap Superstar is Debra Clayton's first novel. Full of hip-hop flavor it's definitely going to be noticed. A little realism, a little fantasy, Rap Superstar is a nice and easy read.

Anthony Talbert, or Animalistic, as the rapper is known to his fans, is used to getting any woman that he wants. Any woman, until he meets Randi Jacobs that is. When Anthony meets Randi at the restaurant where she works, he invites her to a party after his concert the following night. Excited, Randi goes, only to find out that Animalistic has plans to make her a member of his mating zoo. Insulted by Anthony's vulgar behavior, Randi leaves the party but not before she shoots insults disguised as darts at his ego. The following morning, Anthony remembers the one good girl at the party and vows to win her forgiveness. Can Animalistic win Randi's heart, or will he lose his in the process? You will have to read Rap Superstar, by Debra Clayton to find out.

I found this book to be an excellent read. Rap Superstar is a classic romance with a touch of hip hop. The characters were well-developed and all throughout the novel I found myself cheering for Randi and Anthony with hopes that their love would make it across the finish line. I laughed, I cried, and ultimately I turned the last page with the satisfaction of having read a wonderful love story. If you are a romance fan, Rap Superstar is a must read. Kudos to Clayton for a job well done!
