Guess Who's Going Fishing ....,
By Giordano Bruno (Wherever I am, I am.) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Rapala Original Floating Lures Fire Tiger (FT) Size 3 (Misc.)
... in a few weeks? In Vermont, of all places, and with my 20-year-old son who has just discovered nostalgia! We haven't fished together for at least six years. I almost garage-saled all my tackle, since to my mind fishing is intrinsically and exclusively a multi-generational pleasure.
Every lifelong fisherman has a superstitious reverence for certain tackle, especially for certain lures, a preference probably inherited from his own father and piously handed on to his son. My lure-love is Rapala. I have a couple dozen Rapala lures, floaters and sinkers, various shapes and sizes, some that I've never caught a fish on, some in fact that I've never put in the water. They're beautifully crafted, fun to look at, so I confess that "pride of ownership" is involved. I imagine that I've caught more in-the-slot pike and pan-sized trout on less orgulous lures, but several of the photo-worthy big fish of my career -- the biggest lake trout ever caught in Leigh Lake at Grand Tetons, for one -- have bitten on one of my Rapalas. Can you imagine how thrilled I am that my son wants to go fishing? And to bring his Australian girlfriend, too? |
