Rapala cordless knife,
This review is from: Rapala Rechargeable Cordless Electric Fillet Knife (Sports)
I bought this knife looking for a decent cordless knife. I thought I finally found it. Worked great filleted like a champ. Went to charge the battery after about half a dozen uses. Cleaned about a 100 fish or so cleans about 20 fish per charge I thought that was great. Put the battery on the charger and now the batteries are either dead or the charger base is bad cause the batteries won't take a charge. And the charger won't light up. Knife is great but something else is built cheap. KNIFE IS NOT WORTH A $100 IN MY BOOK !!!! Maybe $49.99 is what it's worth. Can't find a phone # or order a new charger base over internet takes 4 to 6 weeks to order a new base after you print out a order form and send it in. RAPALA COSTUMER SERVICE SUCKS!!!!

My husband and I are avid fishing people. We catch anything from a small panfish such as Perch and Crappie, to huge monsters like Walleyes and Salmon. The Rapala Rechargeable Electric Fillet Knife has made life so much easier when it comes to filleting fish. No need to be always sharpening the blade like you have to with a regular fillet knife, and no cords to get in the way. Everything stores in a neat storage case which makes it easy to take along on trips. Holds the charge for a long time - we have yet to run into a problem with the charge dying in between uses. Having two different blade sizes is also a plus.
You may also like to consider the AP Outdoors Fish-N-Game Cleaning Station (Fillet Table). This way your can clean and fillet you fish anywhere.

This is nice to have the liberty to not deal with chords hanging or worrying about power nearby... I prefer it over the plug in.. however the plugin will have a higher repetition of movements than the battery version, but not enough to warrant a buying decision.
NON-Rechargeable plugin - The only negative is that the plugin gets quite hot... as after about 20 fish, I have to start blowing in the vent holes to cool the motor... part of the vent fins are right where your hand goes and so plugs the holes.. but so far the knife still works great. Rechargeable version - Works great!... my only negative is that if you get the battery wet "like a wave splash on it", it may not work the next day... at least mine worked perfect until that happened and I tried to use it again later.. now that particular battery flashes wildly from red to green on the charger when attempting a charge.. the knife still works great with the other battery. You do have to learn how to press the button "down" and then pull the switch back to activate the blades... an extra safety measure that can be annoying.. the plugin doesn't have that issue. Each battery will clean about 30 fish before dieing. A very nice tool to have away from power or when you hate fighting with chords. When they release this in a Lithium Ion version, it will be the cats meow!

I bought this filet knife to take with me during walk-in spring white bass fishing. I walk in about a mile to fish and carrying out a stringer of uncleaned white bass is a bit much. Therefore, I used this knife to filet fish bankside and it has performed very well. I cleaned about 20 fish on just one battery and I am sure there was a lot of power left. The unit didn't get as hot as one of the reviews said. I could easily hold the unit and the buttons were not a problem as one review also said. It balanced well in my hand. The knife blades were very sharp and cut through tough white bass bones quite easily. I would highly recommend this portable knife.

Bought as gift for daughter. Wonderful investment. Makes fileting salmon a quick easy task. The blade that came with this was not long enough to filet Alaskan salmon, so had to buy a longer blade. Can do a LOT of fish real quick!!!

Do not buy this product -- it is very poor quality, and will not do the job as would be expected! I bought as present for fishing brother who longed for the Rapala knife specifically. Since received, it has a clumsy switch that requires double movement, probably for safety, that is a pain. It requires frequent battery switch-outs as charge does not last through but a few fish. WORSE, the switch finally broke, on, and motor now constantly runs.
Pick another manufacturer. I always thought of Rapala as THE quality house, but this knife is certainly not up to "snuff."

I received my Rapala Electric Fillet Knife (cordless) TODAY. I opened it up and put the blades in and it ran fine but when I tried to remove the blades they would not come out. I followed the instructions precisely. I tried for about twenty minutes to remove the blades. By the way you can't put the knife back in the great carrying case without removing the blades. I looked through all the literature and could not find a telephone number to call so a technician might tell me what I was doing wrong. I looked at Rapala's website, no telephone number. Who do they think they are fooling to NOT allow a good customer to call them, one that just spent close to one hundred dollars to buy their product? I would be allowed print out a return authorization form on line and spend $6.50 of my money to send it back to them and it would take "up to FOUR to SIX Weeks for them to return it or another one to me" What a favor they are giving me ....this thing is brand new????? I finally found a phone number through the internet from a normal, honest fisherman like myself. It was Friday afternoon and it was ten minutes by Rapala's time before closing. I let it ring until ten minutes after closing time (for twenty minutes I had it put on the speaker) with no luck! I will be in northern Canada with a bunch of guys fishing for pike, muskie, walleye, and lake trout when it gets here if I am willing to fork up more money!!! I feel sorry for my fishing partners because they will get sick of hearing about how much I currently dislike Rapala. I will blog you guys forever if this does not improve on Monday.

I recently got this knife as a gift & was a little skeptical about how well it was going to work. I have always cleaned my fish with a razor sharp fillet knife & spent at least a minute per fish to clean & fillet them. It took about a minute to set up my fillet table & get started. I was a little awkward with the first fish & getting used to the knife & then spent about 30 seconds to fillet each fish. The job had never been so easy. I really love this knife set & hope to treasure it for years to come.
