4.0 out of 5 stars Handy Fillet Knife With Sheath and Sharpener, January 19, 2011
This review is from: Rapala8 Finn Thinn Fillet / Single Stage Sharpener / Sheath (Sports)
I bought this knife for filleting fish, from small to large. I wanted a thin, flexible blade that could clean a variety of fish, from small sunnies to larger walleyes, northern pike, and salmon. While not the best knife on the market, this one certainly is a handy one to pack in my accessory bag on fishing trips. I found the handle to be comfortable and not slippery. The blade is thin and flexible for smaller fish, yet has enough backbone to fillet larger fish (larger bones), especially larger sunnies and crappies. The blade comes with a sheath with a built in sharpener. This sharpener will only put a rough cutting edge on the blade. It is certainly good for touching up a dull blade, but it certainly does not hone the blade to razor sharp. (By the way, the blade comes extremely sharp!). The metal of the blade does not hold an edge for an extended period of time. I have to resharpen every 15-20 fish or so. I wish the metal held an edge better, but then the price would be considerably more than this affordable model. This is a good average fillet knife - nothing extrordinary, but functional.

I like the thin blade, great for salmon, and holds a blade. Good grippies too.
