Absolutely Increidble,
I rarely post reviews, but I so disagree with the first review on this knife I had to put in my own experience. This knife makes filleting a dream. For panfish, crappies, walleye etc., you cannot beat the speed and precision of this blade. The other reveiwer must have just gotten a bum unit.
Take this fish, head to the left, back towards you, run the knife in behind the gill, turn and go right through the rib cage to the tail. Do not cut off the fillet, flip it over and continue your motion and the fillet comes right off the skin, all in one smooth motion. After you get a pile of fillets take each one and put the blade right under the top of the rib bones, and give the knife 2 quick triggers while pulling up and the rib cage is out. You will NEVER have bones in you fillets again. The knife is so great it makes me want to go fishing more. -Kevin

Field test of Rapala electric knife,
The Rapala electric knife does an outstanding job fileting the first two dozen Sockeye Salmon you catch. Each side of the fish comes off perfectly. The 12v adaptor makes river side fileting a dream. The problem is either the knife edge or the mechanism fails after say two dozen fish. The serated blades appear to be sharp after moderate use, but the knife simply does'nt work through the fish as it should. Had to revert to the traditional filet knife as it became faster and more efficient to use the old traditional filet knife. Liked the product but it must be more durable to pass a true field test.

On first use the plastic adapter plug broke. (the one that plugs into a cig lighter) Taped it back together with electrical tape, hope it works a second time. The knives didn't seem to flow through the fish as easily as our previous electric fillet knife, but it was alot quieter. The cutting board on the back side of the case is a wasted design as it is WAY too small to actually fillet a fish on. Lastly, my husband said it will take him longer to get all the cords back into the case so it will close then it did to fillet the fish. We may end up storing it in a zip lock bag just to save the hassle.

Received this as a gift for Christmas and it has made cleaning a fish a breeze. I have no complaints over the last four months. It is much better than the manual option.

I've owned two of these knives, and am getting ready to buy a third. I've tried most brands (AC and DC) over the past 8 years. I fish often and it's not uncommon for me to clean over 100 fish a night. Most are Striped Bass and Channel Catfish. No knife has served me through 2 seasons (800-1500 fish). They incorporate plastic/nylon gears, none of which can be replaced. But, considering the time saved cleaning fish they are well worth the money. The main thing to remember is sharpen/replace your blades often and don't force the knife through the rib cages. Once you've cleared the rib cage you can sail right down the backbone to the tail. Bottom line; consider these knives as consumable items. I figure it costs me around $3.00 per fishing trip to own an electric knife. Considering I can fillet over 100 fish in less than an hour, it's well worth my investment.

Keep Looking,
Right, Quite but no power! Most fish cleaning stations have a 110 volt plug right over the table. I agree with the other review, once you drag out the power adapter where do you put it, on the table with water??? If the cord was longer you could put it on the ground because you have 18 FEET of cord on the knife!!! Now, see why if hard to get things back in the case. Bottom line not user friendly and does not seem to cut well with little power.

I didn't buy this on Amazon but it was brand new when I walked out the 'box' store. No power at all. I filet bass 1 - 4 lbs and some redfish all of them struggle. Dont buy. Rapala in general has lost something...

Couldn't wait to make the switch to an electric fillet knife. Ordered this. The first one delivered and only one of the two blades would lock in place, the other would come flying out and launch across the room every time I turned the knife on. Exchanged it with Amazon, swift and painless. New one arrived. Turned it on and all was good. Didn't get out fishing again, as it arrived in the fall. Got it out of my drawer in the spring and it would not turn on. Tested the AC adapter and it's good, so something is wrong with the knife. It does have a 2 year warranty, so I'm returning this one and trying an American Angler that gets great reviews and sells for a few dollars less rather than give this yet another chance.
