Product Description

Platform: Nintendo Wii

Put your angling skills to the test in the best bass locations in North America. Rapala Fishing Frenzy puts you in the middle of heart-pounding fishing action as you compete in 20 events to fill your live well with only the biggest bass. But time is limited, so don't be late for the weigh-in. Test your skills on six of America's greatest fishing lakes, including Lake Wylie, Clear Lake, Lake of the Ozarks, Lake Amistad, Logan Martin Lake, and Lake Okeechobee. You'll fish for nine species of monster bass, such as large mouth, small mouth, spotted, striped and more. There are also 14 other trophy species, such as trout, salmon, northern pike, catfish and walleye. Casting the line is initiated by flicking the analog stick or -- for less patient players -- by inputting specific commands to attract fish. Once a fish starts biting, the fight begins. Following the on-screen visual cues, you must carefully balance reeling in the fish while keeping an eye on the line's tension so it doesn't break. Button combinations can also be used to weaken the fish's resolve, allowing for an easier catch. As you progress, additional rods, lures, and live bait become available to improve the odds of landing the "big one." Other play options include an Open Fishing mode and a Quick Challenge. The former has you fishing on your choice of lakes, while the latter involves racking up high scores in timed events.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun!, September 28, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rapala's Fishing Frenzy with Fishing Pole (Video Game)
I bought this game and liked it immediately, but it is not without some small issues. It can be hard to learn how to drive the boat and to cast. Also, the reel attachment that came with the game broke after playing for a while. There are two screws that hold it together, and the plastic around them broke. Returned the game and bought a new one with no trouble. When you do learn how to cast and drive it is a great game and a lot of fun! The graphics are really wonderful and everyone gets caught up in the excitement when a fish is hooked. Overall, this is a great game, but a more sturdy rod and reel would be greatly beneficial.

This is a game for people who like fishing and miss it.It has tons of lures and tons of fish. It has a down side you have to unlock lakes and lures. Also when you cast you go under water were the lure is so you see what kind of fish you have hooked. (if you do hook one)The reel attachment broke reel soon!

3.0 out of 5 stars Just an average fishing game, March 31, 2009

= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rapala's Fishing Frenzy with Fishing Pole (Video Game)
I'm an avid fisherman and I was looking forward to playing this game during the winter months when 'cabin fever' sets in to appease my desire to be on the water. The experiences offered by this game fell short of my expectations, however.

I'm pretty experienced with video games, but trying to get this game to acknowledge a cast left me very frustrated. Thinking I originally had a defective game, I actually had to go on-line to find out how to do it! It was only after finding out how to cast that the cryptic instructions in the booklet finally made sense.

Gameplay is so-so. Graphics are very crude and blocky. There really isn't much skill involved to catch fish, so there's really not much challenge to the game. You just have to go through the motions one lake at a time and meet certain catch goals to unlock more lakes. You really have such limited control over casts and retrieves that it makes the whole experience very dumbed-down from real fishing.

In a nutshell, it's an OK game for awhile but can get boring quickly. As long as your hopes aren't too high, you'll probably have some fun with this game - especially the younger kids.

As other reviewers have pointed out, the casting tool is flimsy and not very functional. Fortunately, you can play the game without it!
