4.0 out of 5 stars Good for Labs
This book is completely built around the Labs and has very little understanding of the mechanics. Do not use as anything other than suplimental learning because you will never learn a thing about how a DFF really works or how to build an adder from the gates. 3.0 out of 5 stars NIOS part uses old IDE, board
This review is on the NIOS part of the book, chapters 15-17. Don't plan on using their examples as-is since the board described is no longer available. Their writeup uses the "legacy" IDE, where the recent software uses Eclipse. You are probably better off with the Altera-supplied tutorials and examples. The index is insufficient.

This review is from: Rapid Prototyping of Digital Systems: Quartus® II Edition (Paperback)
This book is completely built around the Labs and has very little understanding of the mechanics. Do not use as anything other than suplimental learning because you will never learn a thing about how a DFF really works or how to build an adder from the gates. If you already understand that, it does work well to guide you through some very intensive designs including programming VGA. DE2 and UP3 board supported for this book. (I used DE2).
