The Rapid Recovery Handbook,
This review is from: The Rapid Recovery Handbook: Your Complete Guide to Faster Healing After Surgery (Paperback)
An excellent guide for preparing for surgery and the healing process after the event. I read it as part of my pre-surgery prep and incorporated many of the things in the book as well as applying things recommended post-surgically; I am convinced it was invaluable as an aid to my quick recovery. I would suggest this be mandatory reading for anyone having any type of surgery!

I really like this book and have already given it to 3 people who are navigating the tricky world of regaining health after surgery. The complementary care approach is very helpful, practical and full of ideas for peolpe to particiapte in their own healing. I highly recommend it.

This book is chock-full of great advice for anyone going through surgery/medical procedures, or dealing with acute or chronic illness. From nutrition and supplements to relaxation and visualization techniques, to hospital safety - I cannot recommend it highly enough. Helped me get successfully through 2 knee replacements, and I tell all my friends and colleagues about it. As a matter of fact, I seem to have lent it to someone, so I'm ordering another copy!

I was booked for a hip replacement last year. I found this book a couple months before the scheduled date, and I read it and implemented the recommendations religiously--and after 3 weeks my pain was gone, I was able to bear weight on the joint, so I decided to postpone the surgery. As long as I keep up with this book's philosophy, I am fine. When I deviate, I can tell!
Basically, this book relates a program of supplements, food choices, exercises, and other methods (eg stimulation of acupressure points) to strengthen the immune system and to strengthen the body's own natural healing mechanisms. It is well-written, logically explained, and very-well referenced to the science behind the recommendations. The author is a surgeon married to an alternative health practitioner, so the approach is a good blend. I am a physician myself, and I was impressed with the degree of accuracy of all the recommendations I already knew about. This led me to trust the other recommendations I was less familiar with. I recommend this book to all my patients with inflammatory conditions; not just those who need surgery; it works. I think this book should be re-released with a new title and placed alongside all the other "anti-inflammatory diet" references(eg Sears, Perricone)that are out there. It's much more complete because it addresses much more that diet. |
