Rapid Reel Wall Mount Garden Hose Reel Model #1041-GH

I own three different Rapid Reel garden hose reels and they are all excellent.

Pros:

- Every part of this device is well-made of [nearly] 100% rust-proof materials. E.g., the reel-body is 1/10" thick cast aluminum, the swivel mechanism is brass, and it uses stainless steel hardware and brass fittings.

- The painting on my reel is flawless.

- Brass swivel has a 3/4" inside diameter for maximum water flow.

- 10-year no-leakage guarantee; probably the only brand with such a warranty. (Register your reel on-line at Rapid Reel.)

- A solid full-palm design reel handle spins freely on a stainless steel shaft for easy rewinding. Handle is a very tough synthetic material, with a thick aluminum bracket.

- The included 5/8" feeder hose (connecting the reel to a faucet) is high quality, made with weather-resistant rubber, and is 5' long. It has brass fittings and some kind of spiral synthetic reinforcement thread.

- Manual reel brake to keep the hose from unwinding by itself.

- Nicely packaged and easy to assemble.

Cons:

- Lacks a hose guide, which would be helpful when rewinding. We keep a rag nearby and hold the hose with the rag when rewinding to guide it on the reel neatly.

- Lacks a shelf to keep thinks like nozzle accessories.

- This is really minor, but the feeder hose should be 3/4" instead of 5/8", as Rapid Reel used on their reels several years back. That way, there would be no water restrictions when using 3/4" hose.

- Expensive.

Other:

- Before you leave it outside in below freezing temperatures, follow Rapid Reel's instructions for draining all water from the swivel and hose.

Summary:

Rapid Reel models are almost certainly the finest garden hose reels on the market. It lack a hose guide and shelf, but those issues may not be important to you.

This is a high quality durable product from a company that stands behind their products. I've had one of these for over a year now and I use it every day. The brake piece that keeps the hose from unwinding broke. I think that I over tightened it or assembled it incorrectly. I ordered replacements parts from Rapid Reel and received them very quickly. I was happy to pay the few dollars for the replacement parts. Unexpectedly and completely unsolicited, Rapid Reel refunded me for the replacement parts. That's service! Stop comparing hose reels and buy this one.

I bought this reel 2 years ago for literally 50% less than what they charge now...what's up with that??? I got tired of spending money over the years on leaky reels so decided to drop the $$$$ for a Rapid Reel since I already had one for my air compressor hose and it still works great 8 years later. My wife complains that it's a little awkward to reel in hose that isn't straight, as another reviewer mentioned as well, but a couple of years now and it works like new. Since I need another one for the back yard too, I was really surprised and disappointed to see the cost now. There is no reason at all the prices should have doubled to make this thing. So, product review = 5 stars, price now = 1 star. Does it work great? Yes. Will I buy another one at double the price? I doubt it.

This hose reel, while a little pricey, has been worth every dime. This is our second purchase. We are so done with those plastic jobs...this is a well constructed reel and so easy to use. Mom not only easily pulls the hose out, but has no problem rolling it back up! If I were to make one suggestion, it would be to find a way to add a "guide" for the hose. You still need to be careful of the hose wrapping outside of the reel. Otherwise, we love it!

The good news is; the company is extremely responsive to any issues with their product. I've had two problems in the past four years, and as soon as I notify them about it they're ready to send a free part replacement. The bad news; for this kind of money and heavy-duty construction I don't think I should have had these problems. So no, they are not superior, they do break. First, it was the brass hose swivel. Now, the leader hose broke off of the brass swivel. And every time I have to replace a part I have to take the thing apart; which doesn't take five minutes - what an inconvenience.
But there is more positive news...the thing will wind up a fire hose. Yeah, I'm exagerating, but I hope you get the point. Also, I think the company is continually trying to improve their product. Let's take that failed brass swivel from a few years back. At that time, the customer service rep said they re-designed it. Seemed like that part had been failing too often. And now with the leader hose. Mine looks like it was crimped on. But the way it now looks in the manual it appears as a screw on - haven't personally confirmed this yet but is looks like further evidence of their constant product improvement. And finally, watch out for the lead warnings on those Chinese products. No worries here on the RapidReel.
Yeah, it's solid. But don't think that it's trouble-free.

Sometimes you just stumble across a product that amazes you, not because they do something so amazing or cute or ingenious, but these guys have taken the most mundane product and made it amazing!

I've made numerous trips to HD or Lowe's to get a garden house reel, but I finally gave up after the last one cracked and fell off the wall. So I did a search on the web. I came across Rapid Reel, and watched the video - these guys not only seemed like a great manufacturer they made it easy to install and unless someone steals it from the side of my house, it should last a looooong time!

What was so amazing was that it's a simple thing, a garden hose reel, but not only was the product build like a NASA designed product but the packaging, nuts and bolts and instructions were exemplary. You can tell these guys took great care in design, manufacturing and marketing. The rotating fitting for the hose attachment is bronze and rotates smoothly. The wind up handle is big and securely attached, making reeling in the hose effortless - and the backlash brake keeps the hose from unwinding on the floor. The wall bracket is huge, and when attached with the supplied concrete or wood fittings is solid and secure. I didn't even have to make a trip back to HD to get concrete anchors, they supplied them. Just taking the parts out of the box tells you these guys put a lot of thought into not only the product, but the packaging and parts as well.

Stop wasting your money, buy one of these and install it. Then you can write a glowing review like this one.

My Rapid Reel Wall mount Garden Hose Reel #1040-GH arrived within days of ordering, in excellent condition, with all parts and clear instructions for assembly and mounting, which took approximately 1/2 hour. I mounted mine perpendicular to the wall, rather than parallel to it. It's helpful but not necessary to have a second pair of hands and an electric drill/hexbit set. The dull charcoal-bronze finish is unobtrusive and clean looking. The color of hose does make a difference in how it appears. It almost took more time to attach the hose than to assemble and mount. I would recommend a commercial quality hose to avoid crimping. This unit is very strong metal and the mounting screws are spaced for wall studs. My reels are replacing less expensive plastic ones which have repetitively broken or torn out of their mounting holes with use. The reel has a clutch that prevents it from unrolling ad infinitum as you stop pulling the hose off the reel. Very pleased. Highly recommended. Despite cost, good value.

I don't know where everyone gets that these are made in the USA, I got mine today and it said Made In China right on the side of the box. I like the product but lets just be honest where its made. The Rapid Reel website boast the midwest values of the company but it would be nice having some Americans doing the work.

When the horrible plastic reel my wife bought broke after a year, i was tasked with finding a replacement. I believe in buying things once, and getting the right product for the job. After some research i found rapid reel. A few local distributors sold the product but no one had it in stock. When it came i was impressed with the quality of the product, which is evident from the moment you open the package. The fixture itself is sturdy and well built, the hardware that is supplied with it is top notch. The instructions are easy to follow and well written. It went together without a hitch and works flawlessly. I put 100 ft of hose on it which just fits, and after consideration i bought the $20 extension kit that allows up to 150' of hose.


As for value, it cost me $149 canadian and came with a 10 year warranty, from the look of the assembled product it should last for years. Before i bought it i went to a local hardware store and priced out there cast aluminum hose reel at $129. It was poor quality and a cheaply made chinese product, and in the small print on the back of the box it mentioned that it "may contain lead". So, to summarize, for $20 more i got a well-made american product with a 10 year warranty. 'nuff said!

This is the one you want to buy.
Forget about the cheap ones that sometimes you see in street on top of garbage pi;es.
Spend more and be satisfied.
