I charge my Garmin 765 at home before a moderate road trip and run it on battery the whole way. The highway is not subject to traffic jams and the only alternative route is busier and longer, so I don't need the Garmin's in-car charger/traffic monitor. Thus, I don't have a cord dangling down my windshield to obstruct my view or excite the interest of the law enforcement establishment, which likely would mistake it for a radar detector. You can guess the reason for that.
I thought the charger was a bit pricey, but in a relatively short ownership I have no reason to fault it.

I moved to a new area of town that was foreign to me. I need to rely on a GPS just to find where I am going. I go nowhere without my "Gina" and usually she works just fine. Sometimes though she gets out of calibration and I can't do a darn thing with the touch screen. Traffic warnings are useless. Still overall, I'm ok with purchase because I'm not sure I'd be able to get home sometimes I get so turned around. Love the Home feature, wish the favorites would sort alphabetically or allow for category sorting.

The Gomadic charger is NOT substantial when compared to the Garmin charger. Wire is thinner, multiple plugs are bulky, and the charging unit is "fragile" when compared to the more substantially-built Garmin unit. Both work, but for the same price go with the high quality Garmin unit.
