This book had me laughing and saying what the hell at the same time. Everything seemed realistic to me. It was so refreshing to not have to read about the baddest chick in the hood
being half black and half asian or the over the top drug dealer. I will say that It wasn't as grimy as the chronicles of a junky series. So if u are expecting that side of this very versatile author sorry. The best part to me was how the dark skinned sister saved the day ;-) after he lost everything.

In Sa'id Salaam's latest literary effort Rappers D-Lite, readers will be drawn in from the very start of this book. This novel tells the story of David Light, professionally known as D-Lite and you get the front row seat as a aspiring rap artist from the Bronx and through some trials and tribulations his determination leads him to celebrity status.

Rappers D-Lite is not just the story of the boy who wanted to be a successful rapper but more so a in-depth look at the effects of a high profile rapper deals with on a everyday basis and areas of topic include image and rap persona branding as well as trying to find balance in living what some could interpret as a double life.

I enjoyed this story and the authors ability to carefully weave together realistic characters with a plot driven storyline that will have readers wanting more. The appeal to me for this book was that it was a behind the scenes look/reality show glimpse into the life of a rapper in the music industry.

One message that was apparent was that all glitters ain't gold but in Rapper's D-Lite, D-Lite did have to go through some things but did have somewhat of a happy ending.

Literary job well done Sa'id Salaam!

I've read all of this authors books and have never been disappointmented. There were parts where even though D-Lite, Shell, and Day were supposed to be there for each other, Shell wasn't taken care of her man at all and Day was trippin, how are you gonna be outta town, but u left your woman with a key to the condo you shares with your best friend. I was happy that D-Lite found the right woman to complement him and also the effects that Rap music can have on the black communies. However, since he did produce that song, it makes you wonder will we see D-Lite in his element again.

I really feel like this book was slept on. I loved how Sa'id was able to take David, Desean and Shelby from kids to adulthood and the in betweens. This book made me laugh out loud, cry, yell and shake my head if you haven't read this please do your a favor a do so trust me if you not already a fan you will be. This is not your typical read from Sa'id but nonetheless very well written. In his own words Rapper's D-Lite is wildly entertaining but slyly intertwined with a moral message. In the end, decide for yourself if success is worth the price of fame. #SALUTE

D-Lite was a hot damn mess!!! wow this book brought me way back to to the good ole days in harlem and the bronx. A page turner and the characters were relatable. Every page I read was so good i had to keep going because I was not trying to put it down. I need and hope for a part 2 to this. This book was funny, sad and I think we can all relate to being young and naive. Following D-lite on his journey to stardom was worth it. I would recommend this to everyone. If you have read any of Sa'id' S. work then you already know its a 5 star read.

This was a good read BUT it reminded me of a book I read years ago....Omarr Tyree's Just Say No...BUT although there were some similarities, they were totally different. D-Lite dream came true but be careful what you wish for, money could never replace true friendships or could it? Rappers hating on each other, instead of working together, so everyone can prosper, this book tells the story of how they try to destroy each other...and let's not forget about management, the one's pushing the explicit lyrics...this will allow you to see rap unclothed. Great job!
