3.0 out of 5 stars Watts Prophets Never Got The Credit Due Them, April 26, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is early rap, and though most of it doesn't have even the most generic musical accompaniment, it is not hard to get into their message, especially of you understand the time and context in which this poetic, political mosaic was released.
When I ordered it, my 31-year-old nephew was listening, and he asked, "They were saying stuff like that back then?"
I can't help but hear the WPs influence in the work of Def Poetry Jam contestants and even such biting social satirists like Paul Mooney and Richard Pryor...only as one poem title suggests, "Dem n-----s ain't playin'."
