The Lord of Entertainment, July 17, 2000
This review is from: Bad Rapping of Marquis De Sade (Audio CD)
Lord Buckley was a bit of an enigma -- A white guy talking black street jive with the best of them. Lord Buckley was "the orginal." He introduced a new generation of comic and jazz club goers to the antics of such comic greats as Lenny Bruce. Lord Buckley was a master at word play. Listen to this CD. You will be amazed at the way his Lordship strings together words and phrases to tell a story. Without a doubt, this recording is absolutely marvelous. After listening to his Lordship's version of "A Christmas Carol," "Scrooge," you will not read or watch the Dickens classic quite the same way again.

Lord Buckley: A Hip American Aristocrat, February 27, 2000
This review is from: Bad Rapping of Marquis De Sade (Audio CD)
Lord Buckley, though not a household name, with great American artists like Langston Hughes, Mark Twain, Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus. These are the sort of cats who show us what is great about this country even as they point out the injustices that exist. He managed to combine the mannerisms of aristocracy with the argot both of the oppressed, and those who would drop out and blow their own lick. He could combine an irreverance for authority, hedonism, and and degree of heresy with a powerful moral vision. It's really no wonder that even two big hits after he split the scene, his royal court is still here digging his jive. As an American artist, I am proud to count him as one of my influences.

a crazy spook, a wild spook!, December 24, 2004
This review is from: Bad Rapping of Marquis De Sade (Audio CD)
I can't believe the amazon ranking for this -- at this checking -- was like 239,000. On christmas? This thing should be top 10. Quite simply, the mad, mad genius Lord Buckley's version of "Scrooge," called, here, a bonus track, should be in every cool cat's holiday bag. It is, forgive me Mr. Dickens and Mr. Magoo, definitive.
