5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping, Fast-Paced Thriller
A power-mad sultan takes over Brunei. He extorts a billion dollars from the West and demands that the U.S. cede him several islands in the Pacific to restore the country's former glory. President Thomas Livingstone refuses. The sultan brandishes nuclear weapons, and terrorists who work for him attack San Francisco--with a bizarre affliction, holy fire. The sultan must be...

2.0 out of 5 stars Where's the Force?
Lately I have become a new age war reader. You know those books where the people get fed up with the government and take things into their own hands. There are quite a few series out there about this type of warfare. I have read several of these books in recent weeks. Lately I have become a new age war reader. You know those books where the people get fed up with the government and take things into their own hands. There are quite a few series out there about this type of warfare. I have read several of these books in recent weeks. When the first Raptor Force book came out, I found it to quick pop corn action read. I looked forward to the next book. Then the second one HOLY FIRE came out and I read it and.....

Look the plot is very very simple: Little country get nukes, bullies the U.S., puts LSD in the water supply of San Fransico, the President gets mad, and sends in the Raptor Force. That is it.

Now here is why I gave this book two stars. The book is only 296 pages long. By page two hundred the Raptor Force has just got to the little country and hasn't even begun to do anything. Then the author sums up all the action in the next 70 pages and the last 20 pages are a sort of "wrap up." The structure of the book is out of wack. The set up for the story takes too long and the pay off is rushed. The whole book seems like the author rushed to write it to meet a dead line. I was really disappointed.

The sultan must be eliminated, but discreetly and unofficially. Only one group can handle the job. For the second time, Livingstone calls on his secret weapon, the Raptor Force led by retired Special Forces Colonel Dave Brannan. Only this time, the Raptors are joined by archeology professor Anne McCain, who accidentally helped them during their first mission. Under cover of an archeological dig, the Raptors land in Brunei. Bullets fly. So do sparks between Brannan and McCain. Bill Yenne's Holy Fire is a gripping, fast-paced, thrill ride with major fire power--and the fate of the world hanging in the balance. If you like military thrillers, you'll love Holy Fire.
