Editorial Reviews

When the Apocalypse actually happens and a billion people are raptured up to heaven, Lindsey (Kendrick) and her boyfriend Ben (Daley) are left behind in suburban Seattle. The young couple try their best to lead a normal life surrounded by talking locusts, blood rain showers, and pot-smoking wraiths. But when the Anti-Christ (Robinson) makes his home base in their neighborhood, Lindsey finds herself the object of his affection. With the help of her family, friends, and a lawn-mowing zombie neighbor, the young couple set off to stop the Anti-Christ from taking her as his bride... and just maybe, saving the world in the process.

Okay, I can tell from different comical reviews of other films and works that someone is gonna get mad about the plot or the inappropriate jokes. I am here to say if you are looking to get enlightened or find some sort deep meaning behind this film; go back now.

Anyway, I thought this movie was hilarious! I like it when comedic movies own up to their "R" rating. (I'm weird. I know.) It was funny, but also visually stunning and I thought that was great. Also, I have to give props to the music department for the music choice. It most definitely didn't hurt that it had a few comedic actors in the film as well. I think every actor/actress as well as the team for this film did a great job. I would put more of a review here, but I don't like telling people about spoilers, sorry.

"The people who went to church and prayed and missed out on a lot of fun stuff got sucked straight to heaven. The rest of us, well we're screwed." While out bowling one night Lindsey (Kendrick) and her boyfriend Ben witness the rapture. When they get home they find out that both their moms have been taken while their fathers are still here. Trying to move on with their lives they start a food cart. When that doesn't work they take a job with the anti-Christ (Robinson), but with a hidden agenda. This is a movie I was excited about mainly because of the cast. I have to say that I thought this was very funny and I laughed throughout the whole movie, but it is my kind of humor. Mainly a lot of random things happening and some really stupid jokes that make me laugh like a man getting killed by a huge flaming rock and the wife mad because he was holding the eggs when he died. If that kind of humor appeals to you then watch this and laugh. If you are into more intelligent humor then you may not like this. Overall, a stupid movie that I thought was very funny and I laughed a lot. I give it a B+.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surpised me June 8, 2013

I actually really liked this movie. I usually hate dumb humor, but for some reason this movie made me laugh more than once. It's pretty crude, but funny!

2.0 out of 5 stars Snooze Palooza August 26, 2013
Format:Amazon Instant Video
There are exactly two laughs in this movie and both of them are talking crows. Danny McBride should have played the beast/antichrist. He could ad lib funnier lines all day every day. Craig Robinson can be funny, but here he's trying way too hard, as if he knows he's stuck in a straight jacket forces him to hit the same note and wasn't given time or freedom to expand the role.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious August 25, 2014

I'd never even heard about this movie before, and ran across it on Amazon Prime. I love Craig Robinson, so gave it a try. It did not disappoint. Hard to find good stupid humor anymore, and this was full of laughs through the very end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny.... if you know how to take a joke July 11, 2013
By Emejaye
Format:Blu-ray
I thought the movie was pretty funny. It was very original for sure. Something that isn't a repeat from another movie like girl meets guy, girl falls in love, guy loses girl cause he did something stupid, then they fall in love again. It's quirky and funny and something I haven't seen before. The language is definitely not for younger audiences, the verbage is quite strong in the sex department. Would I suggest it? Sure. I had so many laughs during the movie...The ending made me roll my eyes slightly because of the far fetched impracticality but again...I don't think it was made for a literal standpoint but the comedic side won me over. Plus I do love Anna too!

This movie is a hilarious take on the rapture and all of the "end times" predictions concerning the Christian tradition. I thought that the premise and events of the movie were a clever take on it.

The main story is not very good, but the side commentary on religion and righteousness makes it worth watching. Anna Kendrick is always worth watching.

Off-beat movie. Enjoyed it very much as it's a welcome departure from the usual movie scripts.
