4.0 out of 5 stars Well referenced by the author of "After the Rapture: Passing the Torch"
I found Tim LaHaye's book well referenced but a little brusque when addressing other opinions. I like his thoughts about the "age of accountability" on p. 39, that "only God knows that date" (age). Perhaps none of us know everything about what the future holds but LaHaye does a good job at summing up what he and others have written about in the past. Although I love his...

When I bought this book, I was already a "pre-trib" guy, and a big fan of the Left Behind series. I thought this book would help me as a Bible student to have a clear grasp of Biblical eschatology.
After I read this book, I realized that the Bible has absolutely nothing to do with a secret rapture followed by seven years of anti-christ led chaos. I was amazed at...

4.0 out of 5 stars Well referenced by the author of "After the Rapture: Passing the Torch", December 28, 2010
This review is from: The Rapture: Who Will Face the Tribulation? (Tim LaHaye Prophecy Library(TM)) (Paperback)
Although I love his logical conclusions, especially the hope that is associated with the Rapture, I didn't see any "new research" in his work. It is a bit like talking about the Red Sea parting I suppose, many years before the event, except the Israelites didn't have any prophetic writings. We should be scrutinizing Scripture to find the minute details that are scattered throughout to become like the sons of Issachar, understanding the signs of the times, just as before the coronation of David. This "prophetic awareness" as LaHaye documents of Darby, has continued today in increasing fashion. LaHaye is indeed prophetically aware. After the Rapture: Passing the Torch

5.0 out of 5 stars Other Scholars Included, February 15, 2005
This review is from: The Rapture: Who Will Face the Tribulation? (Tim LaHaye Prophecy Library(TM)) (Paperback)

"The Rapture" is a welcomed, valuable reference edition for anyone examining eschatology.

Dr. Tim LaHaye, of 'Left Behind' notoriety, divides his volume of study into three primary sections. He begins by exposing and then deftly answering the basic challenges to the reality of the Rapture in seven defining chapters approaching the event from as many aspects.

Next, the author turns his focus to the timing presented through the pre-tribulation view, including chapters reviewing the other most popular positions of consideration and then closing that section with a final admonition in support of the Pre-Trib stand.

The final passage, consisting of six portions, examines the primary attacks on the Pre-Trib position opening with a detailed analysis of John Darby's life and influence on the teaching. Dr. LaHaye helpfully includes documentation by other scholars that have been chronicling Darby's involvement in the Rapture debate over the past century and more.

Dr. LaHaye's work is a needful response to the continuing attacks on a position that holds more credibility within Scripture than any other offering for endtime fulfillment.

It is positively exciting to be living in the days in which so many prophecies are either being realized or coming to light. And so deep appreciation is rightfully bestowed upon author LaHaye for not only his scholarship, but also his well-advised warning. Dr. LaHaye summons especially all who subscribe to the pre-tribulation pre-millennial view that caution is paramount for all delving into the study of these things which must soon so surely come to pass.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Defense Against Opponents of Pre-Trib Rapture, July 28, 2004
This review is from: The Rapture: Who Will Face the Tribulation? (Tim LaHaye Prophecy Library(TM)) (Paperback)
This is a good primer on the Pretribulationist position. But since I am of this view point...it is like singing to the choir for me.
The gem hidden for Pretribulationist in this book is the section "No Fear of Misguided Attacks" and covers...
* The Pre-wrath Myth (Dealing with VanKampen and Rosenthal)
* McPherson's Vendetta (Dealing with his hatred of the Pre-trib doctrine)
* The Most Absurd Charge of All (Dealing with Robert L. Price attacks calling belief in the Pre-Trib Rapture "cultish")
* A Case Against Slander (Dealing with attacks against Dr. Ironside's)
*Target Number One (Attacks against J.N. Darby)
*Why Do They Do That (Deals with possible reasons opponent attack the Pre-Trib Rapture)
The opponents say frequently that the pretribulation rapture did not start until 1830 from J.N. Darby, of whom was influenced by Irving and the vision of Margaret Mc Donald.
I would start with the chapter Target Number One. The truth is that Darby in his own words said he started his dispensational view (that lead to forming pretribulation rapture doctrine) in 1827 when he was recovering from a broken leg while riding his horse.
From that time he left the Church of England and joined with the Plymouth Brethern. But Darby made enemies because of his forceful personality. In 1844 he and B.W. Newton had bitter strife over the issue concerning the status of the church during the Great Tribulation. Eventually Newton was excommunicated for heresy for his faulty view of the person of Christ.
In 1855, Newton and his brother in law S. P. Tregelles attacked pretributionism as from "Judizers" and in 1865 changed it to a spirit utterance in Mr. Irving's Church.
It is from this poisoned well that McPherson drew to attack pretribulationism. In turn other opponents like Vankampen and Rosenthal quote from McPherson slanted research without question as being true.
These chapters will answer these charges and show them as biased and lacking credibility. From these chapters you can do your own research and come to your own conclusions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but Nothing But a Rewrite of a Previous Book, March 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Rapture: Who Will Face the Tribulation? (Tim LaHaye Prophecy Library(TM)) (Paperback)
I read this book and Tim LaHaye's previous book, "Rapture Under Attack". I definitely believe the Bible supports the Pre-Trib view. However, I could not give this book five stars because it's nothing more than a rewrite from his previous book (with a different publisher) I just mentioned. I was disappointed to find almost nothing new. Worse, some of the chapters were rearranged but in doing so, not all errors were corrected. Someone did a poor job of editing.

I appreciate the author's historical backups but wish he had more biblical backup. This book is somewhat dated; this book would truly be great with a much-needed update.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected, June 9, 2009
This review is from: The Rapture: Who Will Face the Tribulation? (Tim LaHaye Prophecy Library(TM)) (Paperback)
Make no mistake; this isn't a definitive defense of the pre-Trib rapture and I doubt that it was intended to be. Such a book would need to be much thicker. Dr LaHaye provides an entry level overview of the pre-Trib rapture as well as the other views, and a run down of some of the polemics hurled at some pretribulationists. Some who hold opposing views will no doubt get their noses out of joint but the reality is that just about every pre-Wrath or post-Trib book and website attacks the pretribulational viewpoint - most often irrationally.

As an aside, contrary to some of the commentaries about Dr LaHaye's demeanor, he is always fair and gracious. I am well acquainted with some of the issues where he addresses certain polemics and I think he restrained himself admirably.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. But if you have already adopted a non-pretribulational viewpoint, don't bother with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pre-Tribulation Arguments for the Rapture, July 25, 2005
This review is from: The Rapture: Who Will Face the Tribulation? (Tim LaHaye Prophecy Library(TM)) (Paperback)
Dr. Tim LaHaye has done more to put the pre-tribulation view of the rapture into print then any other writer in modern times. His popular LEFT BEHIND series has sparked even movies and much debate in the Church about the timing of the rapture or even if the rapture is biblical.

In this work, LaHaye takes his opponents to task. He seeks to provide both biblical and historical arguments for the pre-tribulation rapture view. He does this by examining both the arguments for this view as well as the arguments of those who oppose his views.

What I found lacking about the book was the lack of biblical arguments LaHaye gives. He spends too much time examining the historical debate and not the Scriptures themselves. I believe LaHaye could almost end the rapture debate by staying in the Scriptures and building his case there. The Bible alone is the only solid foundation for truth (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21).

I was amazed at how weak and utterly careless Lahaye is in his exposistion of Scripture. For instance, his insistance that the 'Day of the Lord' and the 'Day of Christ' must be differant. One of his main arguments in favor of a secret rapture is that since judgement is not mentioned in John 14:1-3 or 1 Thess.4:16-17, this MUST be a seperate event from the final judgement!
One good thing that came from reading this book is that it led me to consider other interpretations of the end times. For far more careful study, try "Four Views on the Book of Revelation," by C. Marvin Pate, "The Last Days according to Jesus," by R.C. Sproul, or my favorite, "The Church and the Last Things," by Martyn Lloyd-Jones.
