Product Description

"Hilary Clinton was missing. That news was almost enough to make me doubt the whole Rapture idea. Bill, however, had been left behind, an announcement that soothed my frayed nerves instantly. President Obama was still around, too, proving once and for all that God hates socialists."

From the Author

Dear Reader,
"Rapture" came about in response to the rising tide of fundamentalism in the U.S. -- and the accompanying hypocrisy.
My story takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the nature of God, religion, and love through the eyes of a born-again Christian woman who, left behind in the long-awaited Rapture, finds she doesn't have all the answers, after all -- or, at least, not the right ones.
Having been a born-again Christian and an enthusiastic member of the Southern Baptist church until my mid-twenties, I have felt the anxieties and prejudices that my protagonist, Ruby Phillips experiences in the tale. I'm quite fond of her in spite of, or maybe even because of, her confused state.
I have never submitted "Rapture" for publication, but decided to self-publish amid predictions of Rapture and apocalypse on May 21, 2011. I hope it will inspire laughter and, more important, a re-thinking about what's important in these crazy times.
Sherry

5.0 out of 5 stars A human story, February 15, 2012

This review is from: Rapture (Kindle Edition)
Sure, this story is set in the aftermath of the Rapture. But despite some pointed social satire and dark humor, it's really about relationships--as is the case with all of Ms. Jones' writing. The mystery of who was "taken" and why is a foil that reveals the protagonist's anger, desires, vanities, misunderstandings, and intentions. All those things that just might add up to her soul.

The ending, when she confronts her husband's teenaged junkie "lover" is pitch perfect.

Jones is the author of two excellent novels that spurred controversy over their subject -- Mohammed's youngest wife, A'isha. Jewel of Medina and Sword of Medina. They're also available on Amazon, I believe. Check them out. If you like historical fiction, you won't be sorry.

More About the Author

Author of "The Jewel of Medina," the internationally best-selling historical novel about the early life of A'isha, youngest and most beloved wife of the Prophet Muhammad, and "The Sword of Medina," about A'isha's fascinating later life and her role in the first Islamic civil war. My third novel, about four sisters in 13th-century Provence who all became queens, is scheduled for publication in spring/summer 2012 by Simon and Schuster Gallery.
