The yeast under three separate trials failed to activate properly, and I have to return a package of it, not too happy until I realized I had to put 1 cup of flour and 1 cup of warm water then add the yeast. I also added a little cane sugar, and in about an hour it rose well, and my bread is baking in the oven now. I am very pleased with Rapunzel Rize Organic Yeast, I only wish it was more affordable and available more places. I detest using GMO yeasts and dough risers that are strictly poisonous to all living things that eat of it. I had no idea there was a difference between organic and GMO yeast until this week, and to think of all the tons of flour and yeast I've baked with that wasn't pure organic foods, well, you can imagine my sadness and how bad it's been. Thank God more people are caring about what goes into baking healthy food for our families and friends.

I am very happy to have found organic yeast. I bake this organic eye bread and the yeast is wonderful. I would recommend it snd as the other customer described how to do it with one Cup flour and one cup warm water and add some blackstrap molasses. My bread is all organic and I am happy I can tell all my friends my bread is totally 100% organic

For all the reviews criticizing this yeast - this yeast is organic and non GMO which requires long rising time just like our ancestors needed. It does not uses conditioners or chemicals to enhance the process and speed up the cycle hence the long rising times. Obviously if you are looking for quick rise, organic is not your main goal! This yeast is wonderful and produces great tasting breads and pastries. Really sad that it's no longer available:(

I have been baking bread successfully for over 40 years and this is the worst yeast I have ever used. The first time I let it rise double what normal yeast takes and the only height it gave my bread was about an inch and a half. The second time I let it rise OVER TRIPLE the normal time and only gained a half an inch over the first disastorous try. This product is not worth the price and I would not recommend it to anyone.

I've just finished baking my "second attempt" of bread using this Rapunzel brand organic yeast, and I would definitely not recommend it. The first batch of bread didn't rise, (the "loaf" would have made a great brick for a wall, ha ha). So on my second attempt I decreased the amount of salt the recipe called for, and increased the amount of yeast (instead of two and a half teaspoons, I used three full teaspoons of this yeast). The yeast still barely activated, and the bread didn't rise to an edible loaf. I've never had this experience with any other yeasts I've used, only this one. It's frustrating to waste all the other ingredients when the yeast doesn't work.

REVIEW EDITED MAY 3rd, 2013; ... I've experimented more, and discovered that if I allow the bread a much-longer time to rise, then this yeast can work. This yeast does seem to require more time than other yeasts to activate and "do its thing", ... but if you give it more time, (and maybe a little more warmth than usual), then it can do the job.
