Incredible ambient flowing...errrunning out of adjectives!,
By Scott Slater (Santa Cruz, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rarae Avis (Audio CD)
When I first popped this CD into my stereo I had no idea what to think...suddenly the room was filled with soaring harmonics laced together to create a melodic framework for the rest of the CD. It was something that I never experienced with music before. The closest that I have ever been to feeling this same mood on a CD was with Lanterna's "Sands". This (Rarae Avis) seven song CD is one of the most compelling and moving musical experiences that I have ever had. Just listening to it for that first time I felt myself go through a range of emotions that I have RARELY felt in connection to a musical work. Hilkert and Co. have done a magnificent job on their first offering to the world of music. I am looking forward to many more amazing songs that are sure to come from this forward thinking quartet.

One of the best.,

I found out about this band through the old Appleseed Cast message board. After listening to the 3 tracks they had up on their website I was hooked. You won't find many bands like this out there. They're one in a million.

rainy day music for any weather,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rarae Avis (Audio CD)
I was first introduced to Rarae Avis by a friend who so happened to be the drummer's older sister and had the CD in her car. Upon first hearing it, I thought "Wow, this would be an excellent soundtrack to a movie about melancholy university students."When I finally got the CD, I realised exactly how correct I was. This music, in its pale, sparse beauty, conjures a sort of mellow angst in the listener. In its entirety it is a relaxing CD, not just noise to put on while cleaning the house, but one to put in the car and drive around listening to for hours on any day of the week. I shall surely be waiting for their next release.
