4.0 out of 5 stars Great Doro Anthology, February 28, 2006
This review is from: Rare Diamonds (Audio CD)
Rare Diamonds is a nice overview of the legendary Doro Pesch's career with the band Warlock as well as her solo material. Doro really is the first lady of metal, and is probably best known for the Warlock anthems All We Are and I Rule the Ruins (which is mysteriously absent from this collection). She's had great success with her solo career as well, so an anthology like Rare Diamonds is a great way to experience Doro's aggressive yet beautiful music.

The collection, released in 1991 on Vertigo Records, features 14 tracks:
1. All We Are
2. Unholy Love
3. Fur Immer
4. True as Steel
5. Beyond the Trees
6. East Meets West (live)
7. Rare Diamond (live)
8. You Hurt My Soul
9. Hellbound
10. Burning the Witches
11. Out of Control
12. A Whiter Shade of Pale
13. Without You
14. Love Song

Back in the day, this type of music would be called power metal. Now it would probably fall into the true metal category. Either way, every metal fan should have some Doro in their collection, and Rare Diamonds is the perfect album to start with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits album w/includes 1 hard to find track., January 11, 1999
By A Customer
Although labeled as a Doro & Warlock album, much of the album comes from Warlock. Only Unholy Love (written by KISS' Gene Simmons), a remake of A Whiter Shade of Pale (and a great version it is!), and a live version Rare Diamonds are the "Doro only" songs, the rest are with Warlock. Album also includes You Hurt My Soul which was only available previously on Warlock maxi-ep. Sprinkled throughout are 2-3 songs off each of the 4 Warlock albums and are predominately ballads and not the heavier stuff. Rare Diamonds gives a pretty good mix of what Warlock was about, and Beyond the Trees (1 of Doro's all-time favorites) is there, the selections from the self titled Doro could have been better (Alive would have been good). Still a good, out on the open road driving album, and the hard to find You Hurt My Soul track is icing on the cake.
