5.0 out of 5 stars TRULY a RARE EXPERIENCE, May 5, 2003
By

This review is from: Rare Moments with the King/Elvis, King of Entertainment (DVD)
Upon viewing these DVDs it was truly "the experience " of rare moments with EP. I was able to see for the first time some television show clippings where ELVIS had appeared that filled up the edited versions from other videos or DVDs I have seen. Watching these DVDs ended my search of ever wondering what event happened before and after a skit. One of my favorite at the Milton Berle's show where Milton was mistaken to be Elvis and got his clothes rip by avid fans . Anyone who really wants to get to know EP should get this DVD and be the first in their collection and one thing I am sure of. you will want to have more....

4.0 out of 5 stars "I'm a-warnin' you galoots; A-don't step on my blue suede boots!" (from Rodeo Roundup), September 29, 2010

The two Sandy Olivieri produced documentaries on this GOODTIMES DVD double feature are more redundant than complementary.

ELVIS KING OF ENTERTAINMENT is better of the two. A sharper, brighter picture, a narrator and 100 minute running time. The faintest possible GT watermark in the lower right corner is only discernible when that area of the picture is dark. There's only two complete performances, both from kinescopes: "Heartbreak Hotel" from the Texaco Star Theater (4/3/56) and a 10/28/56 Ed Sullivan Show where Elvis sings "Love Me" with the Jordanaires.

All else is fragmentary:
1/28/56--Dorseys' Stage Show: "Heartbreak Hotel" | "Let's Play House" | Berle as twin, Melvin Presley | 6/20/56--interview on Dance Party | 7/1/56--Steve Allen Rodeo Roundup skit w/Imogene Coca and Andy Griffith | 7/1/56--split-screen chat on Hy Gardner Calling | 9/29/56--Tupelo concert is mostly crowd noise | LOVE ME TENDER trailer | 11/25/56--amateur footage montage of Louisville Armory concert | "Tutti Frutti" (Stage Show?) | LOVING YOU trailer | JAILHOUSE ROCK trailer | Elvis-related TV montage: Perry Como w/Jack Carter; You Bet Your Life (Groucho); Jack Benny w/George Gobel | newsreel excerpts: Army induction, W. Germany service, release and press conference | KING CREOLE trailer | 5/12/60--Sinatra/Rat Pack "Welcome Home Elvis" special | Trailers: G.I. BLUES; FLAMING STAR; BLUE HAWAII; WILD IN THE COUNTRY; FOLLOW THAT DREAM; KID GALAHAD; GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS; IT HAPPENED AT THE WORLD'S FAIR; FUN IN ACAPULCO; VIVA LAS VEGAS | 2/70--pre-Houston Astrodome concert press conference | 1972--Madison Square Garden footage from audience doesn't match "The Wonder of You" | 1973 Aloha From Hawaii press conference

Also shown are wedding movies and misc. news coverage including his Aug.'77 death, viewing, funeral.

RARE MOMENTS WITH THE KING is a dark, multi-generational transfer that runs 56 minutes, with intertitles instead of narration. The GT logo is boldly visible at all times. No film trailers here. Color footage is badly faded. Berle show kinescope includes Debra Paget and part of a record store skit. Steve Allen Rodeo Roundup sketch is complete. Extended 1961 post-Army news conference is audio-only over a montage of photos and film clips. 1970, '72 and '73 press conferences close the program; the '72 event is several minutes in length.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice collection of rare footage, June 23, 2008

This review is from: Rare Moments with the King/Elvis, King of Entertainment (DVD)
Both dvd's tend to reuse the same footage as the other - one tells the story of Elvis using various clips and narration while the other is purely a collection of rare footage - some very interesting stuff such as a 1970 and 1972 Press conference's as well as a 73' interview for the Aloha special. The 1970 one I have never seen and am surprised it is not utilized more often.
Although the quality is not perfect, the footage is basically very good .Keep in mind no musical performances are included as the makers would have to pay for the use of songs . Still a interesting collection of rare footage from the 1950's (nice sketch with Milton Berle @ Andy Griffith !) thru to the 70's.
