Biography

Jerry Lee Lewis, the Killer, is the rock n' roll singer-songwriter and pianist, whose enduring image will be him standing at the piano, limbs flailing, quiff flying, while he belts out "Great Balls of Fire" - his signature tune.

Lewis developed his style early, mixing boogie-woogie, rock, gospel and rhythm and blues. As a youth he was expelled from university for playing 'worldly' music. He moved… Read more in Amazon's Jerry Lee Lewis Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Untapped Jerry Lee, August 1, 2003

As a long time fan of the Killer I was very surprised to find these "lost" tracks which I never knew existed. This compilation literally blew me away. There's not a song on this CD that's not top-notch.
OK, "Whole Lotta Twistin' Goin' On" is basically "Whole Lotta Shakin'" with a few lyric changes. Still, Lewis manages to make it entertaining. His instro rendition of "In the Mood" is dynamite and I've never heard a bawdier version of "Big-Legged Woman". If you enjoy Jerry Lee at all this is a "must" buy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Tracks have been released on other compilations., July 16, 1998
This review is from: Rare Tracks (Audio CD)
Strictly speaking, not a "rare" recording. With the exception of the bonus tracks, all titles have been released on the Bear Family "Complete Sun Recordings.." boxed set. CD quality is good. "Hong Kong Blues" is an outstanding track, disappointing only in that it needs more verses to be viable. "Sail Away" sung with Charlie Rich is also good. "Twistin'" is the same song as "Shakin'". No one expects "Birthday Cake" to make it to market, especially JLL.

4.0 out of 5 stars "A nice collection of seldom heard gems.", April 23, 2002

This disc will please anyone interested in exploring the Jerry Lee catalog beyond the Sun hits. There are many older country and gospel numbers which illustrate Jerry Lee's versatility. Almost everything he recorded contained a certain sort of magic, and the songs on this disc are no exception. A must have for any fan of true American music.
