Chinese Godfather (a.k.a. Chivalrous Knight)In 1972 a new production companyStar Sea Films emerged in Hong Kong to join in the prosperity of the kung fu movie craze. The owner and producer happened to be a friend of superstar Bruce Lee and received his support by helping with their production Unicorn Fist. The following year Star Sea was making their biggest film to date The Chivalrous Knight.Starring in this tale of redemption and revenge was famed actor and kickboxer Chan Wai Man and in the female lead Bruce Lee's friend Betty Ting Pei.Bruce Lee died during the filming and the movie was dedicated to his spirit.Duel of KarateThe year 1973 was a banner year for kung fu films all over the world. Many productions were under way to supply the demand for this form of action entertainment.Duel of Karate was made then and stands out as a fine example of what audiences wanted from these films.A kung fu master and his wife have twin baby boys and are tattooing them as they are of special blood.Just then an opposing kung fu clan enters the school with Japanese assistance and kills the parents. One baby manges to escape while the other is saved later from the arms of his dead mother. The two grow separate lives but fate will have them meet in a duel to the death brought on by deception and treachery.Only one will survive the Duel of KarateSystem Requirements:Running Time: 180 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: ACTION/ADVENTURE/CAPER Rating: NR UPC: 787364800193 Manufacturer No: Carton Qty 30

1.0 out of 5 stars The worst of Rarescope, June 16, 2008
This review is from: The Rarescope Double Feature: The Chinese Godfather /Duel of Karate (DVD)
CHINESE GODFATHER- Chan Wai Man falls in love with a woman played by Hu Chin, and she doublecrosses him. Not much of a story here, just a really boring movie. I was hoping the fights would save it, but they don't. None of the fights impressed me whatsoever. Even The Chinese Mack was way better than this, and it features most of the same cast.

1.5/5

Picture quality is decent and it's widescreen. English dubbed.

DUEL OF KARATE- bad action and story. I don't really know what else to say. It's from 1971, and it really shows. The only thing I liked about the movie was Doris Lung. Other than that there's a couple watchable fights, and a couple funny scenes where Yee Yuen flies like Superman.

1.5/5

Picture quality in the opening fight is extremely blurry, but after that it's decent. widescreen and English dubbed.

Out of all the Rarescope releases, this is the worst. Other ones to stay away from are King of Fists and Dollars, Cub Tiger From Kwangtung and Duel at the Supreme Gate. All of the other Rarescope releases are pretty good. They just came out with 10-pack that is basically a dollar per movie, and 7 of the movies are worth seeing. Highly recommended- Advantage: Flicks with Kicks
