5.0 out of 5 stars What heavenly fingers, July 12, 2009

This review is from: Les Rarissimes de Marcelle Meyer (Audio CD)
It would seem strange to play Rameau on a heavy instrument like the piano, but somehow Marcelle Meyer has such a lightness of touch that I can imagine her heavenly fingers just dancing on the keys when playing the busy figurations of the gavotte et six doubles.

5.0 out of 5 stars All elegance and finesse, August 4, 2009
This review is from: Les Rarissimes de Marcelle Meyer (Audio CD)
I picked up a double EMI Références LP of this at Tower records in the mid 80's in New York, having no idea what I was buying or who she was, but I was instantly captivated by Marcelle Meyer's elegance and grace - and by the music itself, to which her understated technique is peculiarly suited, as her legion fans can attest. She is all silvery lightness of touch; there is no need to steer anyone away from her to more modern recordings, as one reviewer suggests. This music responds gratefully to being played on a piano rather than a harpsichord; the Pleyel instrument she uses is perfect in that it permits the delicacy of touch needed to encompass Rameau's cascading runs but also has sufficient singing richness of tone to accommodate the subtle harmonies. I was delighted when this appeared on CD. The sound quality is excellent. Sample my favorite Suite in E minor to get the flavour of this most civilised of composers.
