4.0 out of 5 stars Very good mix of live, demos and rarities tracks including a "hidden" track--his audio Coke commercial, September 12, 2010
This review is from: Rarities/Demos/Live Performances Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
Lost amid the popularity of brother Neil's band Crowded House during the 80's and 90's in the U.S., Tim Finn continued to create memorable music after he left Split Enz, joined and then left Crowded House. "Tim Finn", "Before and After" and "Imaginary Kingdom" are all terrific albums (I haven't heard Tim's 2008 album yet and "Big Canoe", "Escapade" are memorable as well even if the production is a bit dated on both albums). This collection takes the odds and enz that Tim has recorded over the last two decades that haven't found a home yet and gives them one so that fans can enjoy these memorable songs.

Opening with kick-a$$ live versions of "I See Red" and "Shark Attack" from Tim's last solo tour continuing on with demos "Pulled It Down Fast" and "Rock 'n' Roll Girl" (written about Tim's daughter)as well as "White Cloud, Black Shadow" an outtake from the Mitchell Froom helmed "Tim Finn" album finally closing with "Cruel Black Crow" and The Hunters and Collectors song "Throw Your Arms Around Me" an outtake from the aborted first Finn Brothers album (which morphed into a Crowded House album).

The album closes with an arrangement of "Salt to the Sea" inspired by the late Paul Hester (to whom the track is dedicated)from one of Tim's solo shows. After the song finishes there's the audio for Tim's commercial for Coke.

This isn't the album to introduce those who haven't heard Tim before but is essential for Tim Finn/Crowdies/Enz fans. There are some brief sleeve notes about each track the only minor complaint I have is it would have been nice to include the various musicians who played on the album. Recommended.
