But they also have the voices to back it up! I admit I was not a fan, but when I saw them live (opening for Jo Dee Messina), my view of them changed. They really knew how to work the crowd and actually sounded GOOD live. You know how you hear some songs and then when you see the artist live it's just not the same. These guys are good! 3.0 out of 5 stars A Very Mixed Rascal Flatts Debut
Rascal Flatt's debut album is a great record, but I don't feel it is as good as later on. While there are some very good moments on here (Long Slow Beautiful Dance, I'm Moving On, Some Say), the record does have a bad song on here, This Everyday Love. I do not like the beat of this song, and it is (along with the other tracks) too immature compared to their later albums...

I found myself singing along to "Everyday Love" and "Prayin' for Daylight" and even "From Time to Time". I bought the CD and am glad I did. Songs like "See Me Through", "Waiting All My Life", and "From Time To Time" have made me a fan. They are smooth, not really traditional country, but then again, few are anymore.

Rascal Flatts said something at their show I thought was very true. They said 'People have been calling us a boy band, but that is not true...We play instruments!' Multi-talented, funny, and cute! These guys will go far!

5.0 out of 5 stars These guys are going to be big., June 10, 2000
This review is from: Rascal Flatts (Audio CD)
Mark my words folks. Rascal Flatts is going to take the industry by storm. Their single "prayin for daylight" is just the tip of the iceberg for this album. The cd cranks out several songs, that I believe will be top 5 hits once they are released, one right after the other. It includes upbeat harmonizing in songs like prayin for daylight and This everyday love, as well as beautiful ballets in While you loved me, See me through, It's not just me, and Waiting all my life. "Some say" and "Long slow beautiful dance" are also cool tunes. The group combines country with a little pop influence to their sound and the versitile voice of lead singer Gary Levox and tremendous background harmonizing by Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney highlight the album. Great all around debut effort by rascal. No doubt that these guys are going to sell a lot of albums.

4.0 out of 5 stars Odd Mixture, but a Good Freshman Effort, December 12, 2000

This review is from: Rascal Flatts (Audio CD)
I normally don't buy a CD off the strength of the first single I hear; so after I heard "Prayin' for Daylight," I waited to see what else would come from Rascal Flatts. "Everyday Love" didn't blow me away like "Prayin'" (which I absolutely love), but I thought it established a solid pattern of songs I could listen to without feeling I had wasted my money.

The first time I heard the CD all the way through, I was disappointed, because after "Everyday Love," there didn't seem to be much substance, and I couldn't distinguish the songs very much. But after repeated listenings, I began to really like the songs. I'm still not a big fan of sugary, poppish love songs, but Gary Levox (lead singer) has one of the best voices I've heard in a long time. He has this twang that just pleads. It's odd that he and his bandmates are singing mostly pop songs with that awesome twangy voice of his. Jay's and Joe Don's harmonies are beautiful and very tight. I just wish they had much better material to work with. I'm not against country pop, but Gary's voice could really shine on some more traditional songs.

My all-time favorite on the CD is "Prayin' . . .", but "I'm Movin' On," and "It's Not Just Me" (co-written by Jay DeMarcus) are very close favorites.

One last note. This refers more to the videos than to the songs. I like that the videos for "Prayin'" and "Everyday Love," though they are love songs, don't feature half-naked women and other visual ploys to get viewers' attention. Some country videos have gone that route, and it kinda ruins the songs for me. I'm sure eventually the videos for RF will go that way, too; but until then I just want to express my appreciation for tasteful, fun videos. Just my .02.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rascal Flatts are the latest in country music., September 14, 2000
This review is from: Rascal Flatts (Audio CD)
I've been "Waiting All My Life" for a CD this good. "Some Say" that this CD is too pop, that it isn't country att all. I say to them: "Get real!" Rascal Flatts is cool, they're "in", and they'll make you believe in good music. There are the beutiful ballads--"It's Not Just Me", "See Me Through" (my favorite!) and "While You Loved Me." Then you get the good foot-tapping songs--"Praying For Daylight", "Some Say", "Waiting All My Life", and "This Everyday Love." At to that the other songs and "I'm Movin' On"--the sadest song ever--and you've got a great album. Buy it today!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow...an awesome CD, insanely talented group, September 13, 2003

To be completely honest, when I first heard "Prayin' for Daylight" I liked it, but didn't think it was anything special. Then about a month ago, my eighteen year old sister decided that we needed to do more stuff together before she went off to college. So, she bought two tickets to a Rascal Flatts concert as a surprise. Needless to say, I went because it was such a nice gesture, and totally loved the concert. Now, I've caught "Rascal Flatts Mania" and listen to both CDs all the time.

1.Prayin' for Daylight - Like the song, but it isn't anything special. It's catchy and fun to sing, but it's not a favorite. 4/5
2.This Everyday Love - I love this one, it's one of my favorite Rascal Flatts songs, and I actually heard it on a commercial for a new sitcom (possibly Happy Family). It's really catchy, a little more country than Prayin for Daylight. 5/5
3.While You Loved Me - Geez. I thought This Everyday Love was great, and then While You Loved Me started. Whoa, honestly - it's one of the prettiest songs I've ever heard. Love the chorus (I was born the day you kissed me, I died inside the night you left me, but I lived, oh how I lived, while you loved me). 5/5
4.Some Say - For some reason the beginning of this song sounds like it would be by John Mayer. Once again, this one's a little more country. This isn't a bad song, but it's skippable. 4/5
5.See Me Through - The only other skippable song on the disc. It's a little too long for my taste (around 6 minutes, 30 seconds) and the lyrics aren't as awesome as the rest. 3.75/5
6.One Good Love - Yayy. This is yet another great song. I love the guitar in the beginning, and I really like the vocals/lyrics. 5/5
7.It's Not Just Me - The first really slow song on the CD. And it's definately one most can relate to. The lyrics are extremely beautiful, and the piano is amazing too. This is my second favorite on the CD. 5/5
8.Waiting All My Life - Wow. Waiting All My Life is really good, and after It's Not Just Me, it DEF. cheers you up. (Yes, even though I love It's Not Just Me, it is quite depressing) 5/5
9.From Time to Time - Love the instruments on this song. Whenever you hear this song, it makes your feet tap, you fingers drum across the surface of a table/desk/etc. I absolutely love the vocals. 5/5
10.Long Slow Beautiful Dance - I used to really dislike this song, and it took a while to grow on me, but it's a favorite of mine now. I love that you can finally hear the other guys vocals, not just the lead's. The lyrics are amazing, a pretty countrish. 5/5
11.I'm Movin On - WOW. The MOST AMAZING song on the CD. I'm Movin' On is beautiful. The piano music is awesome, the vocals clear, and the lyrics brilliant. The first time I heard this song, it actually brought me close to crying. It's so emotional and beautiful, it's genius. 10/5

There are TWO songs on this eleven track CD that are skippable, but they aren't bad. Rascal Flatts is definately a talented group, and I think they deserve more recognition that they get. (Not that they don't get loads of attention, but I have quite a few friends that hate country that LOVE Rascal Flatts. They could definately "take the music world by storm.")

Overall grade: A+

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome CD!, June 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Rascal Flatts (Audio CD)
Rascal Flatts' debut album is fantastic! The first time I put on the CD I played it start to finish. Out of 11 songs there was only one that I wasn't crazy about. SheDaisy has found their male counterparts in country music. Rascal Flatts are in the music industry to stay. These guys harmonize beautifully. "It's Not Just Me" is a moving ballad, but the majority of the CD features upbeat songs such as "From Time to Time". "This Everyday Love" seems to have a bit of Diamond Rio influence behind it. This one is a keeper!

There are not many country acts that release a first album that is as wonderful as this one. I had the pleasure of seeing them live, and they are an act you don't want to miss! My favorite songs (not counting those released and overplayed as singles)#3 'While you Loved Me', and the last track: 'I'm Movin On'. If you're a fan of country, or just looking for some catchy music I would highly recommend Rascal Flatts! There isn't a bad song to be found here :o)

Okay, I bought this cd after I saw the video for "This Everyday Love," which I recorded and watched about 20 times a night! The cd is awesome, and the sound of Gary's voice is just so incredibly unique!! Whether its a ballad or upbeat, these guys have proven that they will be around for a LONG time!

The sound of this CD is a little upbeat for your average Murrell Haggared, George Jones, Conway Twitty listeners. It is targeted to a younger (female) audience with soulful ballads and lyrics of love, laughter, and heartache. This handsome trio is good at harmonizing and delivering their heartfelt ballads with just enough upbeat tempo to attract those "POP" fans as well as those knee slappin' country folk. Unlike some CDs that seem to have just filler songs, that's not the case with this CD. Each and every song shows great smoothness in vocal ability and a great arrangement of true talent.

RF really hit this one out of the park. It is just one hit after another. Their sound is smooth (some say too polished), their harmonies are sweet and the messages are clear. This is a strong CD which won't disappoint. There should be BIG things for RF in their future. The future looks good for these guys.
