If you want a laugh, enter parrot and keyboard into YouTube. Parrots love to pull apart keyboards. This destroys the chicklet keyboard. The old style click keys can be popped off and then put back on. However, after the parrot gets the keys off, he then will chew the pegs below and make it impossible to put the key back in. So, if your bird likes to watch you at the computer and wants to join in, the plastic protection is helpful, especially if you get up and walk away for awhile. But for any serious work on the keys, you will want to take it off as you have to hit the keys really firmly to work through the membrane.

Yes, this silicone cover does the job by protecting the keyboard from dust, crumbs, or water. The transparency is fine and you can see the letters, numbers, and words on the keyboard. It fits fairly well over all the keys. The biggest problem is that the silicone material leaves oily marks and residues on all the keys, especially the ones you use most often: the space bar, shift keys, command/option/control keys, caps lock key, tab key, etc. Every time I wash the keyboard cover, I would have to pull out the keys with the most oily residue and wash them individually. I have mixed feelings recommending this product. It's functional but be warned about the oily residue.
