Greatest Hits is good; Capitol's re-issue is even better,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Raspberries - Greatest Hits [1995] (Audio CD)
The Raspberries: Eric Carmen's rock assault on the Beatles/Beach Boys. With ripping guitars and power pop songs, they smashed through with 'Go All The Way' which almost did - it landed at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. However, it was the highest the band would ever get, as the follow up - "I Wanna Be With You" charted at #16 and it was downhill from there. Their short 3-year career gave us 4 killer albums from the band from Cleveland.

Lofty Power-Pop,

Power-Pop seems like the easiest of all popular music genres to create. All one has to do is mix the proper ingredients of Pop. We need soaring harmonic vocals (Go All The Way, Overnight Sensation), a solid rhythm (I Wanna Be With You), some luscious string arrangements (Don't Want To Say Goodbye), puppy-love lyrics (Starting Over), and a melody that you just can't get out of you head (Let's Pretend).Next, we can push Pop to Power-Pop by turning up the rhythm (I Wanna Be With You, Tonight) with either the kick-drum or bass, and add some screaming guitar lines (Party's Over). Many bands have mixed all the ingredients, but few have created a musical desert as delicious as the Raspberries. The booklet accompanying the Raspberries Greatest Hits includes several photographs of the band members performing. One thing you may notice about the photographs is that the Raspberries are always smiling. Which brings me to the key ingredient of the Raspberries lofty Power-Pop - don't take yourself too seriously.

POWERFUL MAKE-OUT MUSIC,

I agree with SLUT (below). Rasberries is the best driving and parking music there may be. The sauve lyrisism of Eric Carman and mellow hard rock guitar of Goerge Harrison makes for a GREAT DATE! I just hope and pray I knew about it sooner!

All You Need To Hear From Them,

This review is from: The Raspberries - Greatest Hits [1995] (Audio CD)
The Raspberries had two great singles, "Go All The Way", and "I Wanna Be With You", that were originally featured on albums that contained a ton of filler, a similar problem exists with many power pop bands (Badfinger, 20/20, The Records). It's tough to make a "best of" with this material because frankly they are a little shallow like many of the artists in this genre. If you must hear them ,you get the two monster hits , and yes the rest is filler.
