1960s Childhood Re-visited!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Rat Fink Collection (Audio CD)
The days of Aurora model kits, Time Tunnel, Secret Sam attache kits, Famous Monsters of Filmland, Fizzies, and Godzilla (the real one!) come flashing back set to the soundtrack of Mr. Gasser and the Weirdos. This is hardly great music, BUT the nostalgia factor is strong and upbeat. If you like the Ventures, Beach Boys, and Peter, Paul & Mary, give this one a try.

This disk is GREAT. I'm amazed at how well these tracks stand up over the past FOUR DECADES!!! If you make one purchase today on Amazon, put this one in your shoping cart!

This collection features all three albums by Mr. Gasser & the Weirdos. "Mr. Gasser" was famed hot rod cartoonist Ed "Big Daddy" Roth. I'm not sure how much involvement "Big Daddy" actually had on these albums, other than drawing the covers. He is supposedly the singer here, but I have some doubts about that. As for the music, it consists of hot rod and surf songs. The songs are all played for laughs, and are not meant to be taken seriously. This is by no means "important" music, but if you are a fan of hot rod music, you will probably dig it.

I just happen to have copies of all 3 CD disks. They are a real pleasure to listen to. I have played them for friends at parties and they all were in awe of the classic hootenanny style. Some of the older guys requested copies for themselves to have something to groove on while working on their cars or just spending time in the garage. I would have to thank my Dad for turning me on to this style of music. After 45 yrs. I still have to listen to them once in a while and they always put a smile on my face.

A Rip Off of Big Daddy Roth's Fame! Don't waste your money!,

As a child, I was there buying Big daddy's model build sets in 1964! Along with other model sets like Dracula and Frankenstein. Ed Roth was not known for any type of music but he did release three bad albums that had great artwork in the covers. And that's why I bought them. But the music contained within was silly, stupid and a waste of time. Certainly not enjoyable by any means. And then the release of the songs on this CD set came and I could not beleive that people bought it. It was so putrid and the artwork was miniature in comparison. It's best that you buy the original album covers no matter what shape the records are in. It's cheaper and more fun to have. And it's still freaks out the young people when they see it. It's great to see their reaction!
