If I knew this thing was produced by the Travel Channel, I never woulda bought it. It's just another Travel Channel advertisement for Las Vegas. And it's filled with interviews of Rat Pack impersonators, for crying out loud. You're much better off picking up the 2-disc Rat Pack DVD produced by the History Channel. That documentary is much more thorough, contains many more interviews with people who knew the Pack intimately (Tony Curtis, Angie Dickinson, etc.) and, by the way, is a few bucks cheaper! Stay away from this piece discount bin piece of trash.

The picture on front of DVD is very misleading. I should have read other reviews before purchasing. I agree with most critical review...I would not have ordered this DVD if I knew it was produced by the Travel Channel. What a waste of money!!! Very superficial information!!

This is a decent documentary on The Rat Rack Pack. It's primary focus is on Frank Sinatra and the history of the The Sands Hotel. Dino & Sammy to a much lesser extend and some mention of Lawford and a snipet of Bishop. They start with a brief history of Vegas and then how The Rat Pack, Frank in particular's influence/role on the growth of Las Vegas and The Sands Hotel. Many old B&W clips of the Rat Pack Copa Room shows(during the Oceans's Eleven days and earlier) are included. A pit boss who knew them is interviewed on & off throughout the 43 minute program(its 43, not 50 minutes long). This guy has alot of insight - he is slightly cheesy, but informative. Some Rat Pack impersonators are also commentate throughout - the Frank is good, the Dino is not... and the Sammy is just okay...JKF, "the mob" are also discussed. Overall, I would reccomend this DVD. It isn't the best Rat Pack documentary out there. This DVD is, currently, as I write this, selling for about $10 bucks here on Amazon, while The history channel's documentary(new) is selling for well over $100, new. I suggest trying to rent these from Netflix like I did. Save your money for Rat Pack concert DVD's instead. There is one on Amazon(LIVE & SWINGING) and the rest(bad quality bootlegs) require some searching....BTW, disregard some of the bad reviews on here for this documentary. Everyone's intitled to there opinion, but some are clearly wrong/mistaken...Me thinks(thimks) some have had to much "tea"...This DVD is fine. My only complaint would be that The Sands, is actually a bigger star here than Dino or "Smokey". Also the Dino impersonator was slightly annoying. I would still recommend this to any fan, realizing that some folks, tea or no tea, will never be satisfied...

Love seeing the clips of frank and his pals, but it could have been longer and would have liked to have seen more of the real guys instead of the impersonators.

Excellent DVD. Would be better if the main focus was not the Kennedy election. Overall, I would buy it again.

This is a nostalgic item for those who like Sinatra and the Rat Pack. There are a lot of imitators, but this was the real thing, not to be duplicated. There are not too many records of these performances.

An Entertaining Snapshot of Frank Sinatra,

Not Bad. Ray Liotta does a pretty fair job as Frank. Actually all the actors do an equally fair job of capturing their characters in this film dedicated to the Rat Pack. One can argue that this is a bio on Frank Sinatra but only from the stand point that he was the central figure of the Rat Pack. It sketched a pretty broad picture of the Early 60's, Vegas, the Mob, Marilyn Monroe and the Kennedys and how the Rat Pack revolved integrally with each.
My opinion, call it apples and oranges, but Philip Casnoff, the music and cast do a much better job as Sinatra et all!! That movie was more detailed and career expansive, had better camera angles ...giving Casnoff and others really genuine resemblences to the Chairman of the Board and others throughout each of their careers. Owning both movies I can honestly say that each are worth while and entertaining biopics.

This review is from: The Rat Pack's Las Vegas (DVD)
I like the Rat Pack and I like this doccumentary about Las Vegas during it's Rat pack hey day and I loved the history details of old las Vegas. My only complaint is the whiney casino worker who kept complaining about Peter Lawford just because he asked for a certain brand of cigarettes. I mean was it really necessary to trash a man no longer around to defend himself and all because he asked for a different brand of cigarettes? That part was useless and mean spirited so I have to take points off or that! At least I think this is the doccumentary with the Peter Lawford basing casino worker but I could be wrong and if it is another doccumentary then someone correct me if I'm mistaken!
