Because of the other review on this page, I almost missed out on the most comprehensive book of the Rat Terrier selections. I bought all three books. The Hibbard book has more info about the registries (and Nyla bones), and "Ratter Chatter" is a compilation of folks e-mailing one another about their Rat Terrier experiences.
THIS BOOK, BY ALICE KANE, HAS BY FAR THE MOST INFORMATION ABOUT THE CARE AND MANAGEMENT OF AMERICAN RAT TERRIER PUPPIES! We LOVE our new pup, and the books all help to let us know what we may expect from our precious, smart and personable puppy. I am SO thankful that I bought this book, it has been a big help! It's not easy to find books on Rat Terriers, and we are glad that we got all three books --- and especially grateful that the authors of the three books all took the time to write their books! Thank you!

I bought both this book and the Linda Hibbard book. I could have just purchased this one because I think it is the best of the two. It covers everything! A very comprehensive book for me.I am an experienced mother of 4 kids, but I have never had a dog before,so I needed to know everything! I re-read parts of it all the time to help me be a good mommy to my rat terrier puppy. It has everything from the History of the rat terrier to training and behavior and vaccinations and everyday care. The training section has been particularly helpful.

I found this book to be very helpful and nicely detailed. I particularly liked the many good quality photos. Inside the front cover is a two-page picture, with the physical characteristics pointed out and described as from the UKC's breed standard. The standard is also explained in detail in one of the chapters, and in the "Characteristics" chapter it has a good description of the personality traits of Rat Terriers. In the sections about puppies, everyday care, general health care, and senior dogs there is a lot of general information that could be applied to most breeds, but this is common in breed books. The "Health Care of Your Rat Terrier" section has good information about health issues more likely to occur in Rat Terriers, and the "Behavior of Your Rat Terrier" chapter has helpful info about expected behavior and how to deal with behavioral problems that may occur.
Overall, I found this book to be well-written, helpful, and enjoyable to read, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about Rat Terriers.

This book covers everything from training to raising and caring for your Rat Terrier. Well written. Is a book for anyone interested in Rat Terriers. Even goes into detail about the types of toys they like to play with.

As a breeder, I own all of the available books, and this is by far the best book for new owners of Rat Terriers. Definitely worth the price it sells for at Amazon.

We have owned a Rat Terrier for several years. Since we are about to get a new puppy, we bought this book. The section on their personality and behavior is right on. A friend with a new Rat Terrier puppy borrowed the book from us and thought it was terrific to not only learn more about the breed, but also how to manage his new puppy. He ended up buying his own copy. If you are considering owning a Rat Terrier, this is the book to buy.

I felt this book was very helpful in helping me decide on the Rat Terrier breed. It also helped me get prepare for the puppy and gave me ideas for training the puppy.

the book gives a great overview of how the breed started and behavors we have defintly have seen in our pup. I wish it had more detailed tricks an activity that Rat Terriers are happy to perform, our pup is just waiting for a command.

The book has a lot of details about Rat Terrier physique, diseases, character and maintenance and training tips. I was worth reading.

I found this to be an excellent guide on the behavior of the rat terrier. Those little guys can be a handful and this guide is a great resource material for their owner.
