How It Works

The Rat Zapper Classic is equipped with smart circuit technology that senses when the rodent enters the trap. Once the rodent is inside, the rat steps onto the metal plates, completing the circuit and the trap delivers a quick, humane 8,000 volt shock. Since rats have the ability to restart their hearts, the shock is applied for 2 minutes ensuring a high kill rate. Each time the trap catches a rat, the light on top of the trap flashes red to indicate a kill. You can "zap" 20 rats with one set of 4 "C" batteries, which makes it a truly effective rat trap.

Easy to Use

How easy are they to use? Very--and that's just one reason why they're so popular--just insert batteries, bait, place, turn it on and relax. First, insert 4 "C" batteries into the battery compartment. Using the entrance, bait the trap along the back wall using a small amount of peanut butter, dry pet food or nuts. Place the trap where you have seen signs of rodent activity or along the wall where rodents primarily travel. Turn on the Rat Zapper Classic. A red light will blink once indicating the trap is working properly.

"Yuck"-Free Cleanup

The hands-free, "no touch, no view" disposal reduces the "yuck" factor of a common mouse and rat trap. Clean-up is easy and it can be reused indefinitely--your friends and family will want to borrow it for safe, humane rat elimination.

Safe and Sanitary

The Rat Zapper Classic is safe for use anywhere in the home. Built with high-quality electronics, recycled plastics, and recycled packaging, the Rat Zapper Classic is both green and effective. It is ideal for attics, garages, basements and sheds. While it's always wise to use caution around children and pets, there is no blood, mess, chemicals, or poisons with the Rat Zapper Classic.

Satisfaction Guaranteed

As the recognized brand leader in rodent control, we are committed to making customer satisfaction our number one priority. The Rat Zapper Classic is covered under a 1 year warranty.

FAQ's

Where do I place the trap?
Place the trap along the wall where rodents primarily travel or where you have seen signs of rodent activity. Rats are wary critters and they'll initially avoid anything new in their environment. Good news is we're smarter than they are! It may take a few days or nights for the first rat to enter your trap so be patient.

How do I bait the trap?/What should I use to bait the trap?
To bait the Rat Zapper, first make sure the trap is turned off. Place the bait against the back wall of the trap. Be sure to use gloves or a tool to bait so your scent is not transferred onto the trap. We've carefully researched dry pet food and found it an excellent lure. Other dried baits (nuts, dehydrated fruit, etc.) can also work well. Goopy Bait Note: Please be cautious when using goopy bait in your Rat Zapper unless you place it in a plastic container, like a medium plastic bottle cap, and then slide it to the back of your Rat Zapper. If the goopy bait comes in contact with the electronics, it could falsely trip the system.

What type of batteries do I need?
The Rat Zapper Classic requires 4 "C" alkaline batteries which will provide approximately 20 kills and a entire year of stand-by power. Use high quality alkaline batteries to ensure the best results.

I set it up the evening I bought it. I found that a mouse was caught the next morning. Reset it before I went to work. Got another one after I was back! After Zapper killed 11 of them, I declared my house is rodent-free! How can I tell? I scattered some dog food around, all of them were still there days later. I didn't bother to figure which one was mouse and which one was rat. But, some of them were quite big.

I have a tip to offer. After several kills, the Zapper may get the smell of the dead rodents. The remaining ones won't come in any more. You have to clean it up using vinegar and dish detergent as documented on their web site. Those stupid rodents will come back in again.

I have been using two Rat Zappers for a few months now, with mixed results. They seem to work most reliably when the batteries are absolutely fresh. In particular, ordinary alkaline batteries seem to be good for one or two kills only. The recommended (and considerably more expensive) lithium batteries last a little longer, but the claim of "3 months or 15 rodent kills" seems to be marketing hype. Even with the optional "Rat Pack," the lethality diminishes rapidly after a few kills. Without absolutely new batteries, I often find the kill light will be flashing but nothing will be in the trap, suggesting that a rat received a non-lethal shock. That is a rodent that has now been trained to never set foot in such a trap again.

What this product desperately needs is an AC adapter, so it can deliver consistently lethal shocks where an outlet is available. Alternatively, some better mechanism for determining when it's time to replace the batteries would be helpful, besides trying to judge spark length or the relative brightness of the LED indicator.

I have found traditional snap traps to be more consistently effective for rat control, though I still use the Rat Zappers in areas where snap traps would be a danger to pets or children. Just be prepared to spend a fortune on batteries.

My dog had been chasing a roof rat around in the yard for 2 weeks, she couldn't catch him cause roof rats like to hang out up in the trees. The instructions on the zapper say to put food in it and not turn it on for a few days. Let the rat get comfortable around the new object. I have no patience and I put it out in the shed and turned it on. The second night I had my dead rat. Bought 2 zappers for the warehouse at work and in a couple weeks we killed the entire family. 2 adults, 3 teenagers and 2 babies. No one is eating the food now so we think we have them all. Expect more will move in when it gets cold though.

The zapper is not only the most humane way to kill rats and mice it is the most effective and there is no blood and guts. Well worth the money.

My criterion for a good product or good company is not "Does the product or service work perfectly?". It is rather, "What do they do when there is a problem?".

In that spirit, Rat Zapper gets an "A" from us. We put the Rat Zapper Classic out several times unsuccessfully. The trap had been engaged, but the "victim" was not in the trap.

My wife called your company to see if we could exchange The Classic for the Ultra model, thinking that the problem was that the charge was not strong enough.

The Rat Zapper representative worked very helpfully, asking the right questions, and problem-solving with my wife. The solution was to place a wet cloth in front of the trap so that the animal entered with wet feet. Since then the trap has been working exactly as we had hoped.

So, I would not only endorse the product, but the company.

I have to admit that when I first spotted this little gizmo at the local hardward store I laughed. It seemed like one of those late night TV specials: but wait there's more! How could something like this ever work? And the price is so much higher than traditional wire traps.

Then we got the rats. Our neighborhood is infested. Oh, we foamed all the possible entrances and used an exterminator service. No luck (or, rather, the exterminator had plenty of "luck" but we still had rats coming into the house, foraging in the kitchen and making noise in the attic at night)

We have children, so poison and traditional traps and glue coated paper all pose concerns. It's one thing for the exterminator to place traps in the attic or crawl space, but you don't want these in your kitchen (and poison gets you dead rodents under the house). All bad choices.

I got the Rat Zapper 2000.

Bait it with peanut butter or avocado (or even the rat bait blocks--they're not sticky or messy and, duh, rats and mice go for them) and it seems to vacuum up the rodents, luring them in, one-by-one, to a clean but perfectly lethal dining experience. There is nothing like coming downstairs to the kitchen in the morning to a little red flashing light. In a week: all gone. And you never have to touch them. And there is no blood and gore. The big 'uns tails may hang out the back, but otherwise all you do is pick up the trap and empty it into the trash.

An amazing product. If you have rodents, this is the best method of eliminating them I've found.
