I'm a HUGE huge fan of Ratchet and Clank. As soon as Going Commando game out we grabbed a copy - and have been playing it non-stop ever since! Talk about a great sequel!
The plot and gameplay is similar to the first game - you're going from planet to planet, bashing things, gathering up nuts and bolts and finding some INCREDIBLY fun weapons along the way. Even better, if you still have your memory card from the first game, you get to bring in many weapons from that for free.
If you didn't play Ratchet & Clank I, I *really* recommend you get it! It should be super-cheap by now and is great fun. It's not required to understand this second game, though.
This game is almost like 20 games in one. There are pod-racing like portions where you challenge on faster and faster tracks. There are gladiator arena fighting where you test your strength and endurance. There are spaceship flying sections like Wing Commander where you fly through asteroids and around corners. There are button-combos and logic puzzles and really funny video clips.
There are the skill points that you have to guess at and then execute. Each weapon upgrades to a new super version of itself. You really feel like you're making progress as you move through the game, becoming stronger and further along in the plot. Going back to planets is great fun, too, as you find ways to use your new weapons in fun ways.
The game is also great on an entire-family sort of way. There's a lot of fun puns that will go right over the heads of the kids, but in general the game can be great fun for everyone. The kids can hand the controller to the adults if they get stuck, and the adults will have just as much fun as the kids did (and may not give the controller back for a while).
There's always something fun to do, and if you want a change from what you're doing, just hop into one of the mini-games for a whole different experience. The game can literally go on forever. Highly, highly recommended as a must-have for any PS2!

In todays age of gaming having games w/tons of blood, gore, guns and foul language, it's wonderful to have Insomniac Games make a game that, although rated a T, kids under the age of 10 can play. Yes, it has guns, but they're more the ACME sort from Looney Tunes compared to the realistic sounding guns in Jak II. And, you're shooting aliens/robots, not real people like in Jak II and other games. Ratchet and Clank 2 is bigger all the way around... more weapons/gadgets, bigger levels, more things to do than even the first Ratchet and Clank. I've played the first game COUNTLESS times and I know I will Ratchet and Clank 2. I highly recommend it as a game for the whole family and I have a 6 year old son who plays it too. I can let him play and not worry that he's going to want to go out and shoot someone. It's not the type of game to have to worry about what bad habit your child is going to pick up from it. Thank you Insomniac Games!!

i really love rachet and clank going commando. god the weapons are so much cooler than in the first. youll have tons of awesome weapons at your disposal. theres the lancer- deadly automatic rifal. the blitz gun- powerful shooter. the minirocket tube- big gun that shoots rockets. the bouncer- shoots corkscrew rocks than explode in a small eruption of flames. the ryno 2- unbelivabely hardcore power gun with several holes for bulletshooting a powerhouse of a gun costs 1000000 bolts. all the weapons you carry can be completely upgraded. so use your weapon a lot and it will change to a more powerful form of that weapon. rachet gets bigger and stronger as he fights bad guys as well and his health increases. and the weapons arent the only thing that can be upgraded your ship can be too. youll get to choose diffrent colors and designs for your ship. oh and rachet can now purchase armor. excellent game with excellent weapons. use your wrench a lot and that can also be upgraded. the weapons are simply so shar looking satisfying and fun to use youll wonder why you liked the first games weapons.

I got this game the day it came out *Nov. 11 not 14th, mind you* and well, I just came back from playing it three hours straight. I have the first one and loved it but was devestated at the finish, and heres what i've prayed for... a beautiful sequel with a beautiful RPGish weapon and character buildup system as well as some old weapons and brilliant new and old gadgets. One thing that bugs me last game was the trespasser. That little thing just drove me nuts trying to get correct combinations. Now they made a fun way to do it in form of electrilizer which is like a cool minigame. SPEAKING of minigames, how bout these ones?
Hoverbike racing
Gladiator Arenas
Space rocket firefights
Crane games *use a giant crane to kill enemies*
Spherical worlds *o the brilliant spherical worlds!*

In three of these, you can take on different challenges for bolts and a get even rocket upgrades for those of u into space dogfighting! This game is having me relive what I loved so much from the first one. Plus, there's a high difficulty for u worryin about beating it in shorter time than the first!
But with all the new minigames, it has a sort of haven and beyond good and evil feel to it with all the variety of those games. But they are a small part compared to what takes up a good 80% of the game: ALL OUT ACTION WITH DOZENS OF WEAPONS AND COOL GADGETS WOOOO!!! Also for those of you wanting more Clank and Giant Clank, he's there for ya.*in fact clank appears surprisingly early in the game. Here's the diagnosis.
Graphics: 95%
Gameplay: 100%
Difficulty:Medium- hard
Replay Value: OHH YEAH
Environments and variety: 100%
If you've never played the original Ratchet and Clank, by all means try this game also: The first one isnt as good but if u wanna experience the original blow-stuff-up-a-thon u know what people like me are babbling about! A great buy to keep you occupied worth every cent of the $40 bucks it cost.

This game is fun, entertaining, witty, and exhilirating. With 20 new planets to traverse and dozens of new enemies to kill with just as many new and innovative weapons this is an all out wonderful game.
In this sequel to the original Ratchet and Clank, our two heroes are hanging out being interviewed after their trumphs in the last game when they are transported to another galaxy which as thier new boss Mr. Fizzwidget says "I need you sustenance for a situation of dire urgitude" You need to retrieve a stolen experiment from a mysterious thief.
Fizzwidget's above choice of words is an example of the humor in this game. Also the graphics are astounding, the gameplay and controls are fun and easy to understand and in order to do well you must use all your weapons in different ways and situations.
My personal favorite weapon from this game is the Bouncer which shoots out one bouncing bomb that then explodes into many little bombs that damage any enemy in a wide range pretty severly.
BUY THIS GAME! You will not regret it. It is only rated teen for what I view as cartoon violence and really is OK for all ages. Also in this game are maxigames which are things like gladiator battles and races where you can compete to earn bolts (money) or just gain experience. And keep an eye out for hidden secrets like skill points and platinum bolts because if you find/do these you can unlock goodies like space invaders... with sheep! BUY IT NOW

I played the first Ratchet & Clank game to 100% completion. It was so fun that I felt GUILTY selling it! It was OUTSTANDING. This is just as good if not better. No I am not kidding.
-The weapons are better and weapons upgrades are better.
-The cut away / load time screens are actually BETTER & funnier!
-Earning bolts is much improved with progressive battle sequences & races.
-The storyline & voice overs are BETTER.
-The graphics, gameplay, and villains (not who they seem) are improved.
I realize that this review is difficult to digest for fans of the original Ratchet & Clank but they took all the good things of the original and added MORE innovative gameplay...
-It is worth the full price, if you can find it for less more power to you.
-The Brady game guide is essential to finding all the secrets.

Ratchet and Clank have returned, and this time they're going commando. Mr. Fizwedget, the leader of Megacorp aka Qwark, who pretends to be nice, orders Ratchet and Clank to find an experiment that the "unknown" thief [it's a girl!] has stolen. The adventure put into this game is incredible. It is really long, and has a lot replay value. The weapons are really good, and my favorite is the upgraded pulse rifle, and the box breaker wrench. There are plenty of weapons including the Lancer, Gravity Bomb, Minirocket Tube, Sheepinator, and Plasma coil. This game includes everything from hoverbiking to action-packed arena delights. The game also includes alpha-clank battles, and plenty of firepower, and ship battles. It is better than every single Ratchet game, including the fourth one. Here is how I would rate it:

Gameplay: 10/10 - From the extreme hoverbike races to the extreme combat, to the cool ship battles to the alpha clank levels, this game is sick. And simply the foot missions, every aspect of the game is lovely.

Controls: 8.9/10 - The controls are good, and the quick select menu is very helpful.

Sound: 9.8/10 - The sound effects are awesome, and the music is delightful and enjoyable.

Storyline: 10/10 - The story is perfect. It is mysterious, and has good twists. Mr. Fizwedget is evil!

Graphics: 9.0/10 - There was a lot of detail put into this game, everything you can see. And Ratchet looks great.

Lasting Appeal: 10/10 - An extremely long single-player adventure, plus a lot of replay value, this game won't be sitting on the shelf gathering dust.

Overall: 9.5/10 - This is definitely the best game out of all of them, and also the longest. If there was one thing that was to be improved about this game, that would be a little more hard, but who cares.

rachet and clank going commando is awesome. everything just looks so much sharper than the first. rachets in a commando suit the game just has a better look than the original. theres more weapons to use more villans to blast the actionrate is zoomed up to perfection. the graphics are polished and pretty there in the leauge of final fantasy 9 graphics. everything is advanced and improved from the first. the music is wonderful featuring a motion like picture soundtrack. and the sound effects are so cool everytime you blast a robot theres a big boom that makes you feel you did something really cool. instresting storyline instresting plot bigger levels everything is so advanced. the large seamless worlds also have a lot of vareity of activity and they9 all feature an unbelivably perfected ochestrated envirorement. even if you didnt like the original youll love this one. it features fine graphics 50 of the coolest weapons on the ps2. and everytime you blast an enemy rachet gets bigger and stronger wow what a great game. its a must for anyone that enjoys a lot of action in a platform game it sure as heck beats jak ii in more ways than one.

The original "Ratchet & Clank" was an astonishingly beautiful platformer, with superb graphics, qaulity sound, and brilliant gameplay. "Ratchet & Clank 2" is just as good, if not better than it's predocessor. Theres a whole new storyline, with 15 new weapons to use. Each level is twice as big as last time, with extra Maxi Games, such as the "Wipeout Fusion" style racer, and the chaotic gladiator arena. The game is easily worth every penny and should not be put down.
