5.0 out of 5 stars My first Ratchet and Clank experience
I am what you call a casual gamer. I used to be really into video games, but life and (the lack of) time came into play and that's how I became casual. Back to the game. The game itself is pretty awesome if you've never played Ratchet and Clank before. I never played Ratchet and Clank before playing this game. I have to say that the game play is awesome and the difficulty...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing port, March 14, 2008
This review is from: Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (Video Game)
Yes, we have another PSP to PS2 port on our hands with Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters. Sadly though, the usual enjoyment that often accompanies the games in Sony's series is pretty diluted here, as this port is quite disappointing in terms of its overall quality. First off, the game looks pretty bad, as nothing was done to enhance the original game's graphics engine. Seeing the game blown up on the big screen really displays the jerky animation and choppy frame rate, which can almost become distracting. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad if not for the jerky, wobbley camera. There are also an assortment of glitches in terms of the game's audio, graphics, and controls as well, but at its core, there is some fun to find that is buried underneath all the technical issues. Being a Ratchet & Clank game, Size Matters features a large assortment of worthwhile weapons that are a blast to use. There are some funny cut-scenes and dialogue as well to be found, but in the end, this port is just disappointing. It's still worth playing though for fans of the series that haven't played it on the PSP, but don't expect the game to match the series' usual quality.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible port., March 13, 2008

This port of the original PSP game is incredibly disappointing. It's not so much that Size Matters is a bad installment in the series; on the PSP it's a superior product to be sure. But this port is awful. It's filled with slowdown, the graphics are terrible and the camera is broken. There's some enjoyment to be had but certainly not for $30. I can't even recommend it to fans of the series. Either grab the PSP version or wait to pick it up in the bargain bin of your local game store.

We love Ratchet & Clank at our house. Since the Playstation 3 is way out of our budget right now, we were pretty excited to see a new R&C for the PS2, even if it was bumped up from the PSP. We ended up incredibly disappointed.

The controls are rather stiff, especially in comparison to all the other R&C games. The music and graphics are only average. The levels are nowhere near as large and complex as those in the previous games. You should also plan to spend the entire game right up in Ratchet's grill. The camera is SO close most of the time that you can't get a good view around yourself to see approaching enemies or even get a feel for how large an area you're standing on at any given time. We both actually found ourselves getting motion sickness while playing because of the crummy camera! Even the storyline is too silly - even for a cartoon sci-fi series.

I guess we should have checked first to see if Insomniac had been involved in the making of this game (it wasn't). Even knowing it was originally a PSP game, we at least thought it would measure up to the level of the very first R&C... What a let down!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars HUGE Ratchet & Clank fan, but this one BLEW!!!, July 24, 2008
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (Video Game)
I've played every Ratchet and Clank game completely through and I love them. I don't know what happened on this one, but they really dropped the ball. The only thing I can consider is that they made it for the portable first and then made it into a PS2 game as an afterthought.

What a mess. The controls are different. You can't fire with one of the L1/L2 or R1/R2 buttons, which you could do with the rest. makes moving and shooting almost impossible to do smoothly. The camera angles are horrible. There are many times that you can't look somewhere unless in gunsite mode and I can't tell a difference between 1st and 3d person angles. The weapons stink. REALLY STINK!! The upgrades are not that big of an improvement, either. The mini-games and Clank games are simple-minded and horrible.

I hate to see them put up a %25 effort for such a great platform that's had such wonderful games in the past. I couldn't make myself play more than a few hours. I tried to give it a chance, but it just got worse. I'm selling it at Gamestop tomorrow.

I hope that the next time that they make a Ratchet and Clank they put the time and effort into it. I guess I finally have to buy a PS3.

I love this series and was looking forward to playing this game on my PS3. I should have heeded the reviews and stayed away. If it's not made for that specific gaming system, stay away. The manufacturers were only out to make a buck...

How Sony would allow their name to be attached to this game and sully the reputation of the Ratchet and Clank series is beyond me. This game is just plain bad. Being a port from the PSP is no excuse for them to let something like this get released. If you ignore my warning and get this game on the precious merits of the rest of the Ratchet and Clank series, you will be sorely disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Balancing Issues and Camera Problems, October 10, 2009
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (Video Game)
I'm a huge Ratchet & Clank fan who owns all their games to date. Size Matters, on the PS2, is by far the worst of them all, no question in my mind. The graphics are actually not as bad as everyone says they are. I'm playing this on a 42" LCD and it doesn't look terrible for a PSP port. Not as good as the other R&C titles on the PS2, but it's not terrible. I don't have a big problem with the controls either. It plays almost exactly like all the other games...you can strafe, fire with O, swing and throw your ratchet around...it's all pretty much the same.

The biggest problem I've encountered is enemies take an absurd amount of shots to kill. I can unload everything I have from a particular weapon and it doesn't appear like they've taken any damage at all. This is a big problem that I haven't seen in any of the other games. The camera can also be a pain sometimes; giving you horrible angles in the middle of battles.

If you are a first time Ratchet & Clank player, this is not the game to start at. I would strongly suggest getting Going Commando as your first R&C experience. It's the best of the series on PS2 in my opinion. I only bought this because it was $7.50 on the clearance rack and I wanted to complete my Ratchet & Clank collection. Only hardcore fans, like myself, need pick this one up.

1.0 out of 5 stars This game is an insult to Ratchet and Clank lovers!, June 18, 2008
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (Video Game)
This game may have been fine on the PSP (though I doubt it), but this port to the Playstation 2 is terrible. The visuals are worse than those on the Playstation 1, the game is glitchy, the camera is blatently out to get you and the controls are annoying. The game does keep up the tradition of entertaining weaponry and a neat story that is at the heart of the Ratchet and Clank franchise, but has no other redeeming values. As a fan of all of the games (including the newest for the PS3) I was sorely disappointed by this offering. It should be avoided.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (Video Game)
Okay, so I'm 40 years old and a woman... I love video games. I especially love the Rachet and Clank video games. They're cute and they're usually fun to play. Where's the downside? Unfortunately, this particular Ratchet and Clank is only okay.

The whole family loves Rachet and Clank, so my sons 17th birthday was coming up (Sept 2010) and I went to Amazon to see what new video games there were available for him. When I saw Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters I knew that I'd found a GREAT gift!

He was thrilled when he opened the box. Then we played the game. It was easier than the original Ratchet and Clank game! The storyline was so-so. Not at all what we expected. Don't get me wrong, it's not that it's bad, it's just not as good as the other games, so we were a bit disappointed.

If they make anymore, I hope they are better than this one... more like all the others.

I am what you call a casual gamer. I used to be really into video games, but life and (the lack of) time came into play and that's how I became casual. Back to the game. The game itself is pretty awesome if you've never played Ratchet and Clank before. I never played Ratchet and Clank before playing this game. I have to say that the game play is awesome and the difficulty level feels just right for about 90% of the game. I really like the repeat factor and how you can return and explore areas that you have previously beaten.

Overall, I say that this game is a good game for the casual gamer or for the regular average gamer who just wants to have fun without having to worry about how long it will take to beat the game or question if it's worth the price for enjoyment. It's definitely worth the price!
