5.0 out of 5 stars I'm totally hooked! December 25, 2007
Platform for Display:Sony PSP
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters is an absolutely outstanding game that truly represents the pinnacle of platforming titles. Having been a fan of the genre since the original Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Genesis, I've seen more than my share of titles. The rankings break out for Ratchet and Clank as such (all scores are out of five):

Graphics: 5
For the PSP, the developers did an excellent job of pushing the PSP to its graphical limit. The use of character models, animations, and textures are simply phenomenal. This is just shy of looking just like its PS2 cousin.

Sound: 5
The biggest boon for this game is the use of actual voice acting combined with clearly distinct sounds for each of the weapons. Everything sounds like it just fits and all in all ties together to create a believable atmosphere.

Value: 5
One of the best parts of this game is that you can continue to play it well after you beat the final boss. Not only this, but you can do so keeping all the weapons you've already bought and have the opportunity to buy even better ones! It just adds that extra little bit that seems to be missing in many games today.

Story: 4
A tad weak and unfocused at times, all in all it's still good. You really dive into the story of the Technomites and there's quite a bit of humor along the way.

Overall: 5
This is a great game that all PSP owners should buy. I've dropped a good 15 hours into it myself (which is quite a bit for a platformer) and am still playing. The best part is that it really is a fun game that both kids and adults can enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first Ratchet game (sorta) February 19, 2008
Platform for Display:Sony PSP
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
So before I left for Iraq a month ago, my roommate bought a PS3. Along with it he picked up Tools of Destruction along with some other games. I loved watching him play the game. And it was so fun to watch him upgade new weapons and buy new weapons and find new armor. After he beat it, there was even MORE to do now. And I loved it! So I tried the game for maybe an hour from the beginning. Sadly it was the night before I left to come to the sandbox. Because I was HOOKED.

Really wanting to play the game now, I started to look on amazon to see if there was a Ratchet game for the PSP. YES! There was! So, now, I had to buy a PSP also. I went ahead and bought thePSP Daxter Entertainment Pack - Ice Silver and a few games, Burnout, Infected, and of course SIZE MATTERS!!

When the PSP came in (which was only about a week), it arrived with Burnout. I was loving it! Then two days later Ratchet shows up and I couldnt put it down for about a week straight (even though I beat it in about 7 or 8 playing hours...and I was taking my time looking for stuff and completing all the mini games). Right now a friend of mine wont let me play the game because he's basically stolen it and now he's addicted.

I ABSOLUTELY love this game.

PROS:

-The graphics are amazing for such a tiny machine.
-The gameplay is highly addictive (especially if you've never played a Ratchet game before)
-I was scared that the upgrading of weapons would be only in the console versions, but nope..its' here also. LOTS of weapons also.
-Controls are great. I actually switched them around to where the analog stick was mainly for strafing. Also I never really had camera problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great PSP game February 17, 2007
A Kid's Review
Platform for Display:Sony PSP
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is definitely one of the best games on psp. Even though it is under the platformer genre, it has many styles of games implemented into the game itself. It's worth the 40 bucks and if I had to buy it again I would. That's how good this game is. I've played MANY psp games (I have the blockbuster pass) and this one ranks very high in my book. The developers did an excellent job and actually took time on this game. What are you waiting for? Buy it now for yourself and everyone you know.

3.0 out of 5 stars On the PSP, Size really Does Matter November 3, 2011
Platform for Display:Sony PSP
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
The good news is, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters is a very faithful entry in the Ratchet & Clank Series. The creators didn't try to do anything too outlandish, tamper with the game to 'be different', or strip away any of the PS2 release in order to fit it into the PSP (this may be due to some claims I've read that the PS2 version was a port of this PSP version).

That said, there are severe limitations to this title that all seem to center around having to use a PSP to play it. I love my PSP, don't get me wrong: but this platformer is not easy to wrangle on it. I seem to be constantly suffering from camera problems: slow panning when I call for it, and quick snapping away from the scene when I'm just moving around means that a lot of times I end up having to run away dodging so I can put distance between myself and my opponents and buy some time to get them back in my sights. There is a "strafing mechanic", but heaven help you if you start off at the wrong angle. There is a "snap the camera to center" mechanic, but fumbling for it during combat is awkward.

There is also some difficulty with button-mapping. Jumping, high-jumping with mechanical assistance, and long-jumping use the same button mappings. Trying to time the act of running, tapping the shoulder buttons, and simultaneously hitting the 'X' button can be really difficult--and performing the wrong type of jump can be either frustrating or fatal.

For those reasons, I don't recommend that someone new to Ratchet and Clank start here. Try some of the newer entries in the series to get used to the gameplay, then get ready to have to make some accommodations to do on the PSP what you're used to doing on the PlayStation.
