Biography

“The soulful fury of this talented three-piece, the Travis Larson Band, washes the stink of the recording industry’s lame offerings out into the gutters while unleashing it’s unique brand of instrumental rock fusion (think of a musical stew mixing a thick brown Rush gravy with big hearty chunks of Steve Morse and a dash of Jeff Beck).”

With six records and two full-length performance DVDs, the… Read more in Amazon's Travis Larson Band Store

5.0 out of 5 stars It just keeps getting better, October 17, 2006

This review is from: Rate Of Change (Audio CD)
When I listen to TLB's Rate of Change I take a journey. And as I listen again and again, I notice more and more of the musical scenery along the way. From the opening notes (and fancy footwork of drummer Dale Moon) of Sticks and Stones, the listener embarks on a path that varies from intricate and technical, to smooth and lush, to exotic and expansive.

From their first album (self titled Travis Larson Band), I have been impressed certainly by the musicanship and recording, but most especially by the ensemble -- a whole that is much greater than the sum of its parts. It is in the composition that one can see the greatest change across TLB's four CDs. The songs on Rate of Change are even more musically balanced between the trio than their previous (and excellent) work. I'm struck by the natural interplay between Jennifer Young on bass and Travis Larson on guitars with seamless give and take. Dale Moon's drumming has always been exciting to isolate, but on this release, one hears songs within songs. I suppose the "delta" that features in this album's graphic design is appropriate both for the threesome as a unit as well as the continual development this band continues to display.
