This book is great for identifying some (but not all) of the classic whitewater rivers in the US, but it has a HUGE flaw: the chapters are based on a poorly designed survey.The authors asked outfitters to respond to a survey AND provide them with a list of all of their customers. Well - no self-respecting outfitter is going to violate the privacy of their clients. As a result, most of the premier outfitters in the US are not in this book. For example, only one tour guide is mentioned in Maine and it's "Unicorn Rafting Expenditions". Everyone from New England knows that Northern Outdoors and NEOS are the two premier rafting outfitters. Who the heck is Unicorn? This book would have been MUCH better if it was written with a focus on the river with a mention of the major players who are running it. |
