This title is the bootleg title for a film called the The Ratings Game. I'm no sure why Amazon is selling this on their web site.
The quality of this DVD is terrible, I was suspicious when I got it. The DVD case and the DVD itself look like they were home made. Having said all this, knockoff or not this is a bad film with a lot of big names in it. It's like they were trying to make something campy and failed big time. I expected more of Danny DeVito.

THE MOGUL is an off-market edition of what was originally a PARAMOUNT home VHS release entitled THE RATINGS GAME. Various niche outfits have issued this comedy, mostly on tape. The general consensus is that NONE are worth buying due to inferior picture quality. As of 12/09, "Mogul/Ratings Game" was not available on a studio authorized DVD.
Recommended as a collectible certain to increase in value is the 1998 Paramount VHS of THE RATINGS GAME. SYNOPSIS-- Danny DeVito is a Mob-connected trucking outfit owner. His girlfriend (Rhea Perlman) works for the Computron ratings company. With her inside info, Danny is able to send his goons to Computron households and artificially raise the ratings of various TV shows he produces for a struggling 4th-rate network. This made-for-TVer plays like an extended SNL skit and has some outstandingly funny moments. The cast includes SEINFELD's Michael Richards in his third big screen appearance and Bowery Boy Huntz Hall ('Sach') in one of his last. Watch for George Wendt ('Norm' on CHEERS) in a small role. Jerry Seinfeld also cameos! Parenthetical number preceding title is a 1 to 10 imdb viewer poll rating. (6.0) The Mogul ("The Ratings Game") (TV-1984) - Danny DeVito/Rhea Perlman/Barry Corbin/Huntz Hall/Kevin McCarthy/Michael Richards/Vincent Schiavelli/Daniel Stern/George Wendt/Steve Allen/Jayne Meadows/Army Archerd/Jerry Seinfeld/Selma Diamond (uncredited: Roy Firestone/Ed. It is most certainly a "Bootleg"...,

The original title was "The Ratings Game".The copy sold here on Amazon is definately a "Bootleg" copy released by an unknown production company. The picture is barely watchable and is "hazy" at times. The movie itself is quite funny and well worth 10 or 12 bucks if you can get a decent copy.Bring this one out every 4-5 years or so,otherwise more frequent viewings will cause it to lose its' appeal. The fictional cartoon in the movie titled "Goombah's" should tell you what type of laughs that you'll get with this cult movie from the mid 80's.

If you find another source for this movie, pursue it!
I liked the movie very much, and saw it first produced on Showtime Entertainment. This copy appears to be burn made from someone's TV set. Good movie for cheesy fun films, poor quality recording.

I have been waiting for years to find this classic comedy on DVD. It was well worth the wait. I had almost forgotten how funny it was. Danny DeVito was as funny a character in this as he was playing sleazy Louie DePalma on Taxi. If you are a fan of his get this DVD. Not many people ever heard of this movie but the ones who did love it. I am so glad I kept checking on Amazon. I knew it would show up sooner or later..

I've seen The Mogul title and it was great fun. A really cute movie. No problems with the sound or picture.
Maybe some of the negative commentators need to have their DVD players cleaned.

A small gem made by Danny Devito in the '80s. It's a made for TV movie that mocks TV itself. One wonders if corporate media would let anyone get away with this today. Devito plays a small time mafia man with aspirations to be a sit com writer. A fired TV exec, to get revenge on his network, signs Devito to a contract as his last official act. Devito's sitcom is a rip off of threes company. The premise is a hunky guy who lives with two big breasted blondes. However, Devito casts himself in the lead. The network is horrified about the deal and tells Devito the contract is null and void if the ratings [are bad]. So they schedule the show to run up against the All Star Game. Devito realizes he's [in trouble]. So he gets his gangster buddies to abduct key Neilson's families and send them on a horrifying "cruise". He then gets some low level thugs to sit in their homes and watch his show. The sitcom wracks up record ratings against the All Star game. Suddenly Devito is hailed as a creative genius and given free creative control at the network. All his TV shows, however, seem to be based on his limit life. He creates a Saturday cartoon for kids called The Goombas, about a couple guys that spend all their time wagering over pool and farting ("Who cut a flounder?") He creates Charlie's Angelsesque show called Nuzio's Girls about three street walkers. The movie has a cameo by Seinfeld's Michael Richards (Kramer). Like many of the characters Richards played on ABC's Fridays, Richards yet again plays a Kramer like character. All in all a cute little film.
