5.0 out of 5 stars Found my answers!!
What a simple, wonderful and true author. No marketing (low price), no pictures,no turning around the pot...just the truth, take it or leave it! The transition diet is easy to make when we follow the instructions.I felt this man speaks right from his heart, wanting to help people to live a wonderful life. I read many other books, and still come back to this one.

At a time when I was trying to acquire everything I could about fasting, I was excited to get Arnold Ehret's "Rational Fasting". He says that over-eating and the consumption of high mucus producing foods are the true fundamental causes of all diseases, and that the natural remedy is fasting and a fruit diet. He has many worthwhile ideas on fasting, eating and nutrition...

5.0 out of 5 stars comprehensive but to the point, December 6, 1998

I believe this book is worth gold. The benefits one can achieve are amazing. However, some see the book as outdated because of the new information we may believe "modern science" has, but I think that there are basic truths contained in the book that have nothing to do with modern technology. The idea is that by following the simple advice, much of modern technology in medicine will not be needed as you can do so much for yourself than you once thought possible.

I recommend this book highly to anyone who's looking to find the foundational cause of all disease as well as the one true cure! This is one of the top requests in our Health Niche on our website, and recommended reading for the Vegan Journey Roadmap!

This review is from: Rational Fasting (Ehret's Health Literature) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book concentrates on the Lemonade Fast and the benefits that the author experienced from it. It talks a bit about his diet theories and how they relate to Fasting and he also lightly touches base on the Mental and Spiritual aspects of Fasting.

I would say that some of the authors theories are still ahead of their time but being that the book was written such a long time ago, some of his theories are becoming quite dated.

Half of the book ends up with 8 of the authors essays, which are more or less used as filler.

Quite a good book overall. But I would also recommend the books "The Master Cleanser" and "The Fasting Path" to go along with this book.

He has many worthwhile ideas on fasting, eating and nutrition. He was right on the money when he wrote in 1910/1912 that "the waste products of meat, fatty plaque-shaped particles, are deposited on the walls of the blood vessels where in time they form a thick lining, calcify and thus contribute to the hardening of the arteries. This hardening of the arteries, in many cases resulting in high blood pressure, is the chief cause of heart attacks and diseases of senility" (p.92). However, he thinks his mucus theory of disease is superior to the theory that bacilli invade the body from the outside. He thinks bacilli attack white corpuscles in the blood, instead of the other way around. For him, all disease is cause my mucus, an idea that not many of us would agree with today. He was ahead of his time when he wrote "Man is the sickest animal on earth in that no other animal has violated the laws of eating as much as man and no other animal eats as wrongly as man" (p. 77). The actual text of "Rational Fasting" is 93 pages. Pages 95-175 are 7 additional articles by Ehret. Worthwhile, though some ideas are dated. I'm glad I purchased it.

I read this book for the first time years ago and have reread it again and again. If someone wants perfect health it is the right path. However one must do it! Not just read it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Look For Better Choice, June 26, 2006

Fasting can be very healing for the body... there are different types of fasts. Most common are water fast, juice fasts, and some eating of veggies or fruits. This book however, isn't that helpful in information on fasting and the benefits for the body. An internet search on fasting will provide more information on fasting, the impact on the body, the healing benefits. Or you can get other books on fasting that will be more helpful. The important thing is that fasting can be so healing for us... it is worth learning about and finding the best way for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Right minded, but dated information and not detailed enough., July 4, 1997

This review is from: Rational Fasting (Ehret's Health Literature) (Mass Market Paperback)
In my search for instructional material on how to get the most from fasting I grabbed this titled as at first glance it looked like a quick read and to the point. Upon reading it I was disappointed as it seems that it was written for a much earlier and unenlightened audience (1930's) when little may have been know about dietary practices. Most of the text is spent on promting the benefits of fasting and specificially Prof. Ehret's approach. Guidance on fasting itself is not very in-depth. Marcus Abundis
