This review is from: Rationally Speaking: Skeptical Essays on Reality as We Think We Know It - Volume I (Kindle Edition)
I recognized the name of the author from "Skeptical Enquirer" magazine, or maybe it was "Skeptic" ,and having enjoyed his articles, thought the book would be an easy score.
Nope.
The trouble with authors who promote skepticism (of which I am a fan) is that they are so intent on making a point that they eventually suck the life out of any topic. This book is proof. Sometimes a belief is so strong in that genre of writers that they become what they hate the most, people who present as fact things which are unproven to be fact, and the "argument from authority" and the "appeal to man" style gets so old, so fast.
Skepticism, and scientific rationale, is valuable beyond compare, especially today more than ever I think, but this fellow, as well as others, like Shermer, should take their own advice and have an open mind, just not so open that their brains fall out. They've gone the other way and have become so "closed" that they debunk the light of day, and the dark of night, simply because that is what they believe.
I hate to bash the guy, he is sincere in his writing and beliefs, but the presentation of both is a little painful.
