BARREN CROSS REUNION CD ROCKS,
This review is from: Rattle Your Cage (Audio CD)
This album by Barren Cross is way underrated and went out of print almost as soon as it was released. This reunion cd is one of the best you are going to find. Someone mentioned the cd doesn't sound produced like the Elephante brothers used to do it. That's true, but if I want to hear that version of Barren Cross then I will put on Atomic Arena or State Of Control. This is not a case of if it's not broken, don't fix it. This album sounds fresh and it rocks very hard. This album features some of their best songs with "Here I am" "Midnight Son" and "Time For Love." It also has some of the heaviest songs written by them like "Unsuspecting" and "Rattle Your Cage" This album went unnoticed much like Bloodgood's 'All Stand Together'(another great album) and deserves a listen. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed. Stand Out songs "Here I Am" "Let It Go,Let It Die" "Far Away" and "Rattle Your Cage"

Dont listen to the all the hype about this album being uninspired, broken/fixed, poorly produced, etc... What we have here is a more personal side of Barren Cross. Theres no denying their previous albums are without a doubt classic Barren Cross! Of course the Elefante Brothers did a fantastic job producing thier previous albums. BUT with this album, you dont have the Elefante brothers influencing their sound and song writing either. So Rattle Your Cage offers a more true side and sound of the band. And the production is fantastic in my opinion, its more raw and less polished, the way metal should be, but still sounds precise and clear at the same time, letting all the members showcase their instruments. There are even a couple Praise and Worship inspired songs showcased in the softer songs, which is great. True this album does take on a little bit of a different vibe compared to their previous albums released in the 80's, but it should, it was released 5 years after their previous album!! And none the less, their sound is still unmistakable Barren Cross. And Mike Lee sounds good as ever! My suggestion, give it a chance.

Excellent Hair Metal,

But it was released in 1994. This is one of the beat Pop-Metal albums you have never heard.Midnight sun rocks hard and Rattle Your Cage opens this CD up in style.

Released in 1994, Rattle Your Cage was Barren Cross's final studio album. It's obvious the band tried to stay on top of the changing musical climate, toning down their Iron Maiden and Dio-inspired power metal elements in favor of a heavier and (dare I say it) grunge-like approach. The results are mixed. The band definitely achieved a heavier than usual sound, but it's plain to see that Barren Cross is much better suited to playing melodic power metal than grungy alterna-rock. Vocalist Mike Lee's powerful wail is always going to be closer to Bruce Dickinson than Chris Cornell, and Ray Parris's blazing guitar solos are metal all the way. I'll give the band credit for trying to adapt their sound and stay fresh, but the result of their musical fence straddling is an album that falls short of the standard set by earlier Barren Cross albums. Buy it if you're a Barren Cross fan, but you won't be spinning this one nearly as often as you would Atomic Arena or State of Control. The track listing is as follows: 1. Rattle Your Cage 2. Here I Am 3. Unsuspecting 4. No Time To Run 5. Sick 6. Somewhere Far Away 7. Feed the Fire 8. Let It Go Let It Die 9. Time for Love 10. J.R.M 11. Your Will 12. Midnight Son

still got it,

Maybe not as good as atomic arena but a good cd none the less. I thought they did a good job of mixing up the heavy guitar with the twelve string acoustic. I listen to this cd often!

Uninspired,
This review is from: Rattle Your Cage (Audio CD)
Where are the Elephants? This is a classic example of: if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Barren Cross lost their inspiration, and directon with this album. This is by far the weakest Barren Cross release. Rattle Your Cage is poorly produced, poorly written, and poorly arranged; in that sense, the CD is consistent... I do not understand what prompted these guys to go back into the studio with this excrement, especially with the first three albums being as strong as they are. My advice, skip this release, and buy the first three. If you must buy one, go with Atomic Arena!
